MEANINGFUL LESSONS OF TET HOLIDAY
From the flag-raising activities on Monday morning, to the lessons and STEM education activities at school, students of Dinh Tien Hoang Primary School (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) have felt the atmosphere of the Lunar New Year 2024 approaching very soon.
In the first meeting of the week on January 22, students had an activity called "Learning about Tet". Throughout this week, students had many more activities such as: "Making masks for spring travel", "Mbot for spring travel" (Mbot is an intelligent robot developed according to the STEM education model); apricot and peach blossom decoration contest; banh chung wrapping festival; video clip making contest "Tet street corner"...
Preschool children happily celebrate Tet
Since the previous week, students have had STEM lessons with a Vietnamese Tet atmosphere such as learning how to wrap a paper-based Tet cake, decorate Tet paintings, etc. The school also organized the 2024 Spring Festival, with the participation of many students and parents.
Ms. Tran Thi Thu Huong, the school’s principal, said that organizing educational activities in the school based on the Tet theme helps students to participate enthusiastically. From here, many lessons for students about the meaning of traditional Tet, the origin of the nation, and the beauty of Vietnamese culture are presented closely and truthfully. At the same time, this is also an opportunity to connect parents with educational activities at the school.
TEACH CHILDREN TO SHARE
From January 22 to February 1, the "Spring Festival" of Phu My Kindergarten (District 7, Ho Chi Minh City) took place with great enthusiasm. During the festival, teachers and children prepared materials and created many vivid works, such as the kindergarten class decorating piggy banks, the sprout class decorating flower pots, and the children in the leaf class painting on cloth bags.
The highlight of the festival is that the works will be auctioned to raise funds to help those in difficult circumstances. Ms. Pham Bao Hanh, the school's principal, said that the "Spring Festival" also has food stalls and folk activities for parents to join in with their children.
"The program is enthusiastically supported by parents, because it helps children be creative and also helps educate them in the spirit of sharing," said Ms. Hanh.
During a STEM activity at Dinh Tien Hoang Primary School, District 1, students learned how to make Tet cakes from paper.
SPRING OF LOVE, TET REUNION
Students of Nguyen Huu Tho High School (District 4, Ho Chi Minh City) are excited with many competitions and activities to celebrate Tet held until February 2. A typical example is the writing contest "My feelings about Tet", where students can show their literary and creative abilities through words, images and attached videos. Each work of the students is a stream of emotions about memories of Tet in the past, wishes for Tet today, nostalgia for Tet dishes or memories of Tet reunion...
Grade 10 students also had a contest to design "Spring greeting cards"; grade 11 students competed in "Decorating Tet fruit trays" or students from all three grades competed in decorating apricot and peach blossoms, and performing Ao Dai with the theme "Gentle Spring" to honor the traditional Vietnamese Ao Dai. Notably, on January 30, Nguyen Huu Tho High School also organized the program "Spring of Love - Tet Reunion", giving Tet gifts to disadvantaged students.
Children of Phu My Kindergarten, District 7, Ho Chi Minh City draw pictures on bags to sell to raise funds to help disadvantaged children.
Mr. Do Dinh Dao, Principal of the school, said that the Tet activities aim to create a space full of spring colors for students to have fun and relax after a stressful time studying. These are also lively and practical lessons to educate students about Vietnamese culture; give them the opportunity to connect, exchange, work in groups; educate the spirit of solidarity, love and sharing with friends in difficulty to generations of students...
Integrating Tet lessons for preschool children
Ms. Nguyen Thi Doan Trang, an expert from the Preschool Education Department, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, said that the time before Tet is a meaningful time. Teachers teach children not only Vietnamese traditions and customs but also a lot of knowledge and lessons about nutrition and health. For example, let preschool children talk about the activities their families usually do during Tet, which activity they like the most...
At the same time, teachers ask children to name Tet dishes, their favorite dishes, and ask questions about which dishes should not be eaten too much (like cakes, jams, candies, etc.).
At the same time, teachers can let children participate in activities, simulate situations, and talk to them about how to stay healthy during Tet, such as not staying up too late or waking up too late the next day. Going out during Tet must also be safe, recognizing signs of being unwell and not taking medicine on your own when you are sick...
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Doan Trang, all of the above lessons and messages need to be presented gently and closely, so that children can easily absorb them. They can be integrated into the school holidays, in the early morning conversation, in activities organized in class, and in the end-of-day conversation when children wait for their parents to pick them up...
