On the morning of October 1st, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee launched the Lifelong Learning Week (from October 1st to 7th) with the theme: "Learn to develop yourself, master knowledge and technology, and contribute to building a strong and prosperous nation" at Nguyen Hue pedestrian street.

Mr. Duong Anh Duc, Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee (center), together with Ms. Tran Thi Dieu Thuy, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, and Mr. Nguyen Tan Phat, Secretary of the Saigon Ward Party Committee, wave the flag in response to the 2025 Lifelong Learning Week.
Key drivers for development
Speaking at the launch ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, said that the program aims at the common goal of building a learning society, ensuring that all citizens have the opportunity for lifelong, equal, and sustainable learning.

Overview of the launching ceremony
This year, Ho Chi Minh City continues to affirm a new step forward: Learning is not only about accumulating knowledge but also about driving personal development, mastering technology, and contributing to building a prosperous and powerful Vietnam. Entering the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution with artificial intelligence, big data, the Internet of Things, etc., knowledge and technology are becoming key drivers for development.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, delivered a speech at the program.
To avoid falling behind and contribute to building Ho Chi Minh City into a "global learning city"—where knowledge, technology, and innovation are integrated into all aspects of life—each citizen needs to actively engage in self-learning, lifelong learning, and consider digital transformation in learning and work as an urgent task.
This year's Lifelong Learning Week is an opportunity for agencies, organizations, schools, communities, families, and individual citizens to affirm the spirit of lifelong learning linked to digital transformation; to enhance digital skills and effectively utilize technology to serve learning, work, and life. Through this, we can all work together to build a modern, civilized, humane, and compassionate city – a UNESCO Global Learning City.

Ms. Tran Thi Dieu Thuy, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, presents scholarships to underprivileged students with excellent academic achievements.
"In response to the Lifelong Learning Week, the city's leaders call on departments, agencies, organizations, wards, communes, special zones, schools, centers, and cultural institutions to continue paying attention to and creating conditions for all citizens to learn regularly and continuously. Each family and clan should uphold the tradition of valuing education, setting an example for the younger generation; every citizen of Ho Chi Minh City should build a sense of self-learning, 'learning more, learning forever' to develop themselves, master knowledge and technology, and contribute to overall development," Mr. Hieu launched.

The organizing committee awarded scholarships to 16 exemplary individuals in lifelong learning.
It's never too late to learn.
Responding to "Lifelong Learning Week," Mr. Tran Tien Phuoc (40 years old), a recent high school graduate, shared: "I want to learn to set an example for my children so they believe that learning is the best path. Learning gives me the opportunity to make up for what I missed when I was younger, to earn a degree I didn't have the chance to obtain. I want to tell the younger generation not to miss opportunities; it's never too late to learn."

Mr. Tran Tien Phuoc participates in the Lifelong Learning Week.
Mr. Phuoc works in the drainage industry in Ho Chi Minh City. During the day, he works, and in the evening, he is a student at the Vocational Training and Continuing Education Center in District 8. Due to his past circumstances, he was unable to complete high school and take the graduation exam, so now that he has the opportunity, he is determined to return to school to fulfill his unfinished dream.

Vehicles with loudspeakers broadcast messages promoting the Lifelong Learning Week along the roads.
It is known that, at the same time, 168 wards, communes, and special zones throughout the city also simultaneously held opening ceremonies to spread the spirit of lifelong learning widely. In particular, a flag-waving parade with 28 loudspeaker vehicles from wards in districts 1, 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, Phu Nhuan, and Binh Thanh (formerly) promoted the campaign through the central streets, calling on the community to join hands in building a learning society. The organizing committee awarded scholarships to 16 exemplary individuals in lifelong learning.
