Previously, the life of Mr. Tran Van Dan's family in village 2 (Son Hong commune) mainly depended on forestry and small-scale livestock farming, with unstable income, depending on the weather. In 2017, after being encouraged by the commune government to change the crop structure, he boldly planted 5 sao of tea.

“At first, I was worried because I had no experience, but with technical guidance from agricultural officers and the Tay Son Tea Enterprise purchasing the products, I felt secure in doing it. At the end of 2017, the tea began to be harvested, with each sao yielding an average of 1.5 quintals of fresh tea per month. With a price of 7,400 VND/kg, tea brings in income many times higher than previous forest planting,” Mr. Dan shared.

Tea trees are suitable for the climate and soil of Son Hong hill area, so they grow quite well. After a few years, Mr. Dan's family has a stable income and a better life. Mr. Dan said: "Growing tea is not too hard, and it gives a steady harvest all year round. As long as you take care of it properly and fertilize it properly, the tea will give a stable yield. Thanks to the income from tea, my family has less constant worries about income, and has the conditions to repair the house and take care of the children's education."

Also in village 2, Mr. Dao Cong Duc is one of the households with the largest tea growing area of ​​more than 15 sao. Since starting to grow tea, Mr. Duc has realized that this is a suitable direction, bringing clear economic efficiency.

Mr. Duc said: “Previously, when I planted forests, it took 5-7 years to harvest. But when I planted tea, it only took about a year to start harvesting. This year, my tea garden yielded more than 15 tons, sold to Tay Son Tea Enterprise at 7,400 VND/kg, earning more than 100 million VND.”

Currently, in village 2 of Son Hong commune, there are nearly 30 households growing tea with a total area of ​​nearly 10 hectares. Tea has become one of the important economic development directions, helping many households escape poverty. Thanks to stable output and not too large investment costs, the tea growing model is increasingly trusted and chosen by people. Some households have boldly expanded the area, applied new care techniques to increase productivity, formed concentrated production areas, creating a foundation for the locality to develop more sustainably in the future.

Currently, the whole Son Hong commune has nearly 27.2 hectares of tea.

In village 13, Son Hong commune, the tea growing model is also showing remarkable effectiveness. The whole village currently has 25 households growing tea with a total area of ​​over 8 hectares. Of which, Mr. Dau Dinh Lieu's family is the largest grower with over 10 sao of tea that have been systematically invested.


Mr. Lieu shared: “Growing tea does not require too much expense, just diligent weeding, fertilizing and watering during dry weather for the plants to grow well. Thanks to the adaptability of tea plants, all of us can do it. Every harvest, there are people who buy on the spot so my family can maintain a steady income, life is more stable than before.”

Thanks to the connection between people - government - businesses, the tea growing model in Son Hong is increasingly proving its effectiveness. The commune regularly organizes technical training, instructing people on the care and harvesting process, ensuring the quality of raw tea meets the requirements. In addition, many households have proactively installed additional water pipes to facilitate irrigation during the dry season. Thanks to that, it has contributed to improving productivity, ensuring a stable source of raw materials for purchasing businesses.

Many tea areas in Son Hong commune have invested in a synchronous irrigation system, so the quality is quite good.

Mr. Tran The My - Vice Chairman of the Commune Fatherland Front Committee, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Son Hong Commune said: "Growing tea helps people have a steady income all year round, while planting forests requires a long cycle. On average, each hectare of tea brings in an income of 120 million VND/year; households that take good care of it and have large areas can earn over 120 million VND. This is a suitable and sustainable direction, contributing to reducing the poverty rate of the commune."

According to statistics, the entire Son Hong commune currently has nearly 27.2 hectares of tea, with an annual output of more than 440 tons of fresh tea, bringing in nearly 3.3 billion VND in revenue. Thanks to the stable income from this model, many households have become economically stable, gradually escaping poverty and significantly improving their material and spiritual lives. At the same time, the expanded tea area contributes to greening bare land, protecting the ecological environment and forming a production area linked with purchasing enterprises.

Thanks to tea trees, many families in Son Hong commune have gradually escaped poverty.

Developing tea trees is the right direction, suitable for natural conditions and people's needs. Tea trees not only help increase income, create stable jobs but also contribute significantly to the goal of sustainable poverty reduction. In the coming time, the commune will coordinate with specialized sectors to expand the growing area, guide care techniques according to safety standards, and at the same time call on businesses to invest in deep processing and build a brand for Son Hong tea products.
