Traditional patterns on Red Dao costumes

The Red Dao people in Lam Thuong, Phuc Loi are preserving many traditional cultural values, including women's costumes that are like a diary woven with thread and color. The colorful patterns are not only a sophisticated embroidery art but also a story passed down, recording the life, beliefs and journey of the family through many generations.

The patterns on the Red Dao’s costumes are completely hand-embroidered. Each stitch is like a verse of poetry, each color block is like a chapter of history, a living story.

Each pattern is the Dao people's respect for the world around them. The motifs are not drawn on the fabric first but are completely formed in the embroiderer's mind like an ancient source flowing back.

The technique of embroidering brocade patterns of the Red Dao people is left-to-right embroidery - meaning the embroidery is completely on the left side but the pattern appears fully on the right side. Along with that is the technique of threading to create the pattern. Therefore, both sides are smooth and have no excess thread.
