Latest on cold air: Stronger than forecast, mountainous areas below 8 degrees

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that a strong cold air mass is moving down to our country. It is forecasted that in the afternoon and night of November 17, the cold air will affect the Northeast and North Central regions, then affect the Northwest and Central Central regions and some places in the South Central region. Strong Northeast winds at level 3-4, coastal areas at level 4-5.

Due to the influence of cold air, on November 17-18, the Northern region will have rain, showers and thunderstorms in some places. From the evening and night of November 17, the weather will turn cold in the midlands, the Northern Delta and the North Central region, the mountainous areas of the North will be very cold, and the highlands will be extremely cold in some places.

The lowest temperature in this cold air mass in the midlands, the Northern Delta and the North Central region is from 12-15 degrees, in mountainous areas from 9-12 degrees, and in high mountainous areas it may be below 8 degrees. During the day, the highest temperature will only reach 17-19 degrees, in mountainous areas below 15 degrees. The coldest time will be concentrated on November 18-19.

Hanoi capital on November 17-18, there will be rain and showers. From the evening and night of November 17, the weather will turn cold. Temperature on November 18 will be from 15-17 degrees, on November 19 will be from 14-19 degrees.

Rainfall from 7am to 3pm on November 16th was over 100mm in some places such as A Luoi station (Hue) 257.4mm, Kham Duc station (Da Nang) 143.2mm, Krong station ( Gia Lai ) 122.6mm, Suoi Tien station (Khanh Hoa) 126.6mm.

It is forecasted that from the evening of November 16 to the end of November 18, the area from Quang Tri to Da Nang, the east of Quang Ngai and Gia Lai provinces will have very heavy rain with average rainfall of 200-400mm, some places over 700mm. The area of ​​Ha Tinh, the east of Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa provinces will have average rainfall of 100-250mm, some places over 350mm. The west of the provinces from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak will have rain of 50-100mm, some places over 200mm.

In addition, in the evening and night of November 16, the Southern region and Lam Dong will have moderate rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall from 20-40mm, in some places over 80mm.

It is forecasted that from the night of November 18 and the day of November 19, Hue, Da Nang, the east of Quang Ngai and Gia Lai provinces will continue to have rain from 100-200mm, some places over 300mm, Quang Tri area, the east of Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa provinces will have rain from 50-100mm, some places over 150mm, the west of the provinces from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak will have rain from 30-60mm, some places over 100mm.

From the night of November 19, heavy rain continued to occur in the Da Nang area, provinces from Quang Ngai to Khanh Hoa. From November 22, heavy rain tended to decrease in this area.
