Director of the Department of Culture and Sports Nguyen Khanh Hiep said that the province always pays attention to building a healthy cultural environment and a civilized lifestyle suitable for the industrialization and modernization process. People's lives and cultural and spiritual enjoyment have been improved. Cultural institutions and cultural policies have been promoted and gradually improved. The network of cultural and sports institutions has been increasingly expanded and improved, meeting the needs of people's living, studying and training. The quality of mass cultural activities, propaganda and agitation, and other types of public cultural services have been improved. Up to now, 100% of communes, wards and special zones have cultural houses, libraries or community activity points that operate more and more effectively, becoming "meeting places" connecting the community.
Along with that, human resources and staff working in cultural work are given attention and development. The organization and management of festivals are put into order, and people's awareness of implementing cultural and civilized lifestyles is raised. Traditional festivals have become a beauty in the cultural life of the people such as the festival of Ba Chua Xu in Sam Mountain, Nguyen Trung Truc festival, Bay Nui bull racing festival... along with traditional occupations such as Cham and Khmer brocade weaving; making palm sugar of the Khmer people... are maintained regularly, organized more and more systematically, attracting a large number of tourists, contributing to affirming the position of An Giang on the cultural map of the whole country.
The movement "All people unite to build a cultural life" continues to be widely deployed, spreading to every residential area, family and individual, gradually forming a civilized living environment, promoting the spirit of national solidarity. Up to now, over 92% of families have met the cultural standards of the whole province; over 84% of hamlets and villages have been recognized as cultural titles, showing the consensus and strong response of the people. Mr. Danh Tung, resident of Go Quao commune, shared: "We are happy that the local government always supports people in economic development. At the same time, it pays attention to carefully organizing traditional festivals, cultural activities, arts, physical education and sports, contributing to political stability, order and social security, promoting cultural identity, and strengthening the relationship between villagers and neighbors."
In the context of integration and development, preserving and promoting traditional cultural values is one of the key tasks of the province. The dynamic, creative and enthusiastic young generation is considered an important factor, a pioneering force in preserving and promoting traditional culture. Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union Phan Duy Bang shared: "The Youth Union at all levels in the province always cares about and creates an environment for young people to learn, experience and contribute, becoming a pioneering force in preserving and promoting the identity and traditional cultural values of the nation through positive actions, studying and researching ethnic culture, participating in community activities and contributing to the socio-economic development of the locality".
Mr. Nguyen Khanh Hiep said that cultural development is not only about preserving heritage but also about creating soft power, an important spiritual resource to promote tourism and local economic development. In the coming time, the cultural sector will continue to coordinate with all levels, sectors and localities in the province to promote propaganda and dissemination work widely among all cadres, party members and people to join hands in building and developing culture, meeting the requirements of sustainable development. "The province always pays attention to preserving and promoting the traditional cultural values of each locality and ethnic group, contributing to preserving and promoting the values and traditional beauty of ethnic groups in the province," Mr. Nguyen Khanh Hiep affirmed.
