(NLDO) - The 6th International Experimental Theatre Festival - 2025, organized by the Vietnam Theatre Artists Association, is entering an exciting phase.

This afternoon, November 16, the play "Illusion" by the Ho Chi Minh City Small Stage Drama Theater was the first shot to kick off the exciting competition of 6 art units in Ho Chi Minh City participating in the 6th International Experimental Theater Festival - 2025.

The jury came from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City to judge the awards and to the performance venues of the 6 units to enjoy the works with the audience. "This is a great opportunity because going to Ninh Binh to compete is very expensive, the organizers bringing the jury to Ho Chi Minh City to watch is very convenient, so the art units can participate and reduce the burden of travel and transportation costs" - People's Artist Hong Van shared.

Although only 6 plays were selected through the judging round, they promise to create a creative atmosphere through 6 plays that aim to experiment and explore new things "that no one has done, no one has staged".

On November 16 and 17, the city's audience will have the opportunity to enjoy 6 typical experimental plays, bringing together many domestic art units, promising to create a diverse, new and challenging creative space for both audiences and professionals.

"Ao Quan" - the return of experimental theater at 5B Vo Van Tan

The play, performed at noon on November 16 at the HCM City Small Stage Drama Theatre (5B), brought a profound aesthetic in the staging of director Chinh Ba. A person who likes to create mischief, explore new creations and always tries to incorporate current issues into the play.

5B Theater was the cradle of Ho Chi Minh City theater experimentation in the 1990s - 2000s, so the return of an experimental play this time has created expectations for a new step forward for private theater that People's Artist My Uyen - Director of the Theater - despite knowing that she would lose money still did it, to light up 5 ticketed shows and 1 performance within the framework of the festival.

The opera "Hon Tho Ngoc" (performed at 8:00 p.m. on November 16 at Tran Huu Trang Theater) is a creative world of director Meritorious Artist Le Nguyen Dat.

In addition to artist Binh Tinh, the play also features a choir of 60 young actors from the University of Theatre and Cinema in Ho Chi Minh City. This play continues the experimental spirit of director Meritorious Artist Le Nguyen Dat with the hope of combining poetic language, contemporary movements and non-linear structures to give the Cai Luong stage a new direction in creative exploration from music , scenery to acting.

"The Flood" - a human tragedy on the "floating trash island"

On the morning of November 17 (9 o'clock performance) at the Youth World Theater, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Theatre and Cinema will compete in the play "The Flood" - a work revolving around three survivors of the great flood, lost in a sea of ​​garbage and facing the most naked truth of themselves. This is a play by Master - director Thanh Thuong.

"Son Ha" is an experimental play telling a folk tale in modern language that will compete on the afternoon of November 17 at Tran Huu Trang Theater. This is a play by Sen Viet Theater.

The special feature of the play is the use of visual arts - light - music to recreate the epic space. Sen Viet Theatre has long pursued the path of innovation from traditional materials, and "Son Ha" is considered an experiment to promote a new approach, connecting the national spirit with the tastes of young audiences through the performance of Meritorious Artist Tuyet Thu.

The play will be performed on the evening of November 17 (8 p.m. show) at the Student Cultural House (643 Dien Bien Phu). The play is invested by Hong Van Drama Theater, specifically Meritorious Artist Oc Thanh Van, promising to bring the audience outstanding creative experiments from the script "Nguyet Ha" by author Le Duy Hanh.
