In the context of a volatile global energy market, the construction of a national petrochemical and energy center in the Dung Quat Economic Zone has been identified as a strategic direction to enhance Vietnam's energy self-reliance. The core of this model is the Dung Quat Refinery – the foundation for developing an integrated energy ecosystem encompassing petrochemicals, gas, LNG, electricity, renewable energy, and logistics.
According to the plan, the center will be developed with multiple components such as petrochemical refining and storage, a green energy cluster, low-carbon industries, and a logistics service system. This approach represents a shift from traditional petroleum production to deep processing, value-added production, and expansion into new energy fields such as hydrogen, sustainable fuels, and carbon capture technologies.
The Dung Quat Refinery upgrade and expansion project is considered a pivotal step, helping to improve processing capacity, increase raw material flexibility, and boost the proportion of petrochemical products. This will not only ensure energy security but also contribute to the formation of a complete industrial value chain, enhancing the long-term competitiveness of Vietnam's energy sector.
