Vietnam - Cambodia flight route: A bridge to foster friendship between two neighboring countries

After more than a third of a decade of operating flights to the Kingdom of Cambodia, Vietnam Airlines (VNA) has been an important bridge in developing friendly relations and economic and social exchanges between Vietnam and Cambodia. From having only one flight to Phnom Penh in the early trans-Indochina route, Vietnam Airlines has now opened 4 routes to this "land of pagodas" including: Hanoi - Siem Reap, Ho Chi Minh City - Siem Reap, Ho Chi Minh City - Phnom Penh, Hanoi - Phnom Penh (in the trans-Indochina route, transiting in Vientiane, Laos).

All four routes connecting Vietnam - Cambodia operated by Vietnam Airlines depart daily with a total of 78 flights per week, thereby creating the most favorable conditions for passengers, businesses and investors to travel between the two countries, while demonstrating the prestige and position of Vietnam Airlines alongside other international airlines in this key market. Within the framework of the State visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia by President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam To Lam, Vietnam Airlines will announce the opening of an additional direct flight from Hanoi to Phnom Penh. This is a proud milestone for the Vietnamese aviation and tourism industry, a testament to the airline's persistent efforts in the journey to connect the two countries. “Cambodia is one of the important markets of Vietnam Airlines. Over the past 30 years, Vietnam Airlines' direct flight route to Cambodia has contributed effectively to promoting international economic integration, developing tourism, attracting investment and trade, bringing many benefits to the Government, businesses and people of the two countries. Increasing frequency, expanding flight network It can be seen that over the years, the relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia has been built on the foundation of good neighborliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long-term sustainability. The two countries have built a solid political relationship, with regular exchanges of high-level visits. Regarding investment, Vietnam has 206 valid investment projects in Cambodia, with a total registered capital of about 2.95 billion USD, maintaining its leading position in ASEAN and being among the top 5 countries with the largest direct investment in Cambodia. Bilateral trade turnover between Vietnam and Cambodia has maintained a positive growth rate for many consecutive years. In the first five months of this year, Vietnam-Cambodia import-export turnover reached 4.6 billion USD, up 13.4% over the same period last year.

In 2023, more than 1.01 million Vietnamese tourists visited Cambodia, ranking second in the number of tourists coming here. On the other hand, Cambodia is one of the 10 largest international tourist markets to Vietnam. The two countries also regularly organize cultural and artistic exchange events to enhance understanding and friendship between the people of the two countries. Along with the process of building friendly relations, the Vietnamese aviation industry and Vietnam Airlines have promoted their pioneering role, making very positive contributions to connecting the people of the two countries. Since the beginning of operation, Vietnam Airlines' flights between Vietnam and Cambodia have not only transported passengers or goods, but also served as an economic, political, cultural and diplomatic bridge between the two countries. In the context of rapidly increasing relations and trade between the two countries, Vietnam Airlines will continue to seek opportunities, research to increase frequencies, and open new routes based on market demand, in order to perfect the flight route products between Vietnam and Cambodia in the coming time, contributing to promoting exchange activities between the people of the two countries to become more and more vibrant.
