On May 26, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that the European Union (EU) had begun drafting its 21st package of sanctions against Russia. Speaking at a press conference in Vilnius, she stated: “We are preparing a new package of sanctions against Russia.”
According to her, these measures are aimed at ensuring that Russian citizens clearly feel the consequences of the conflict in their daily lives.
Ms. von der Leyen also stated that the EU had approved 90 billion euros in aid for Ukraine, enabling the country to negotiate "from a position of strength."
Previously, on April 23, the EU officially approved its 20th package of sanctions against Russia. Under this package, the EU Council was empowered to impose a complete ban on the sea transport of Russian oil and oil products. Transactions with 20 Russian banks were also prohibited.
On the same day, the United Kingdom expanded its list of sanctions against Russia by 18 items, including the Eurasian Savings Bank and the real estate company Diamant Estate.
