On the morning of May 27th, the Hanoi Electricity Corporation (EVNHANOI) issued a statement confirming that there were no planned power outages in Hanoi on May 27th. The corporation stated that information circulating on social media regarding planned power cuts in the capital city was inaccurate.

According to EVNHANOI, in the context of the North entering the peak of the hot season, the unit has proactively postponed all previously planned power outages, except for cases that are absolutely necessary due to the risk of causing incidents.

Simultaneously, EVNHANOI is implementing a comprehensive set of solutions to ensure stable electricity supply for residents and businesses. These enhanced operational plans include deploying 24/7 on-call personnel, inspecting the power grid in areas with high load demand, ensuring sufficient manpower, vehicles, materials, and equipment, and being ready to quickly handle any unforeseen situations.

EVNHANOI also recommends that people use electricity economically and rationally during the period of intense heat. Specifically, customers are advised to turn off unnecessary electrical devices, set air conditioners to 26 degrees Celsius or higher, and limit the simultaneous use of multiple high-power devices to reduce pressure on the power system.

Since May 23rd, the northern region of Vietnam has experienced its first widespread heatwave, considered the most intense since the beginning of summer 2026. According to the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting, temperatures in many areas of the North have reached 37-39 degrees Celsius, with some places exceeding 40 degrees Celsius.

In large cities, the heat absorption effect from concrete, pavements, and buildings with large glass surfaces causes the perceived outdoor temperature to sometimes exceed 50 degrees Celsius. Notably, the prolonged heat, even at night, leads to a surge in demand for cooling devices such as air conditioners, electric fans, and refrigerators.

The surge in electricity consumption during the early-season heatwave has led to the Northern power system continuously recording new operating records. According to data from the National Power System and Electricity Market Operator (NSMO), both the load capacity and electricity consumption of the national power system, as well as the Northern region, have reached their highest levels since the beginning of the year.
