According to Yonhap News Agency, the monthly report on the film industry released on April 9 by the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) showed that in March, Korean films grossed a total of 80.3 billion won (59.3 million USD).
This figure represents a 274.1% increase compared to the same period in 2023 and a 159% increase compared to the average of 50.5 billion won during the 2017-2019 period before the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the report, South Korean films attracted 8.29 million viewers in March, a 342% increase from a year earlier and a 134% increase compared to the pre-pandemic average.

KOFIC stated that the increase in revenue for South Korean cinema was primarily due to the popularity of the supernatural horror film Exhuma.
In March alone, the film grossed 70.7 billion won, following its release on February 22nd.
Thanks to the film's success, South Korean cinemas sold 11.7 million tickets, generating a total of 116.6 billion won in revenue during March.
This is the second-highest March box office revenue in the country's film history since March 2019.
Director Jang Jae Hyun's Exhuma remains at the top of the South Korean box office for the seventh consecutive week since its release, attracting 11.36 million viewers.
The film stars Choi Min Sik, Kim Go Eun, Yoo Hae Jin, and Lee Do Hyun.
