It can be said that frequency spectrum plays a fundamental role in all mobile communication technologies. We cannot build a house without land. For mobile communication, frequency spectrum is that land. Once frequency resources have been secured, the entire industry has officially entered the race to develop 6G.
China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) recently granted permission for 6G band testing to the IMT-2030 Promotion Group, which brings together major carriers, technology companies, and leading research institutions in and outside of China involved in 6G research and development.
The promotion team will test 6G technology in selected areas, thereby evaluating the performance of this next-generation mobile technology in complex urban and industrial environments, marking a significant shift from 6G research in the laboratory to real-world testing.
According to the roadmap, China's 6G technology testing program is divided into three phases, with the first phase completed in 2025, involving the research and development of over 300 core technologies. Phase two trials are expected to continue until the end of 2027 before moving on to large-scale pre-commercial network testing.
Currently, Chinese telecommunications companies are also testing various practical applications of 6G, mastering the technology and perfecting the industrial chain of 6G chips, terminals, and measurement equipment. It is predicted that by 2035, when 6G is commercially deployed on a large scale, China could form a market and industrial ecosystem worth approximately 1 trillion yuan, equivalent to about 147 billion USD.
