1. The spoon-like bill is a super-efficient filter feeder. The spoon-billed duck's bill has thin, barbed plates on the edges, allowing it to precisely filter plankton, small insects, and plant seeds from shallow water. Photo: Pinterest. 2. The male duck has colorful plumage during the breeding season. During the mating season, the male duck has a metallic green head, white breast and bright reddish-brown flanks, while the female maintains a brown color to blend in with the environment to protect the nest. 3. Distributed throughout the Northern Hemisphere and long-distance migratory. They breed in temperate regions of North America, Europe and Asia, then migrate thousands of kilometers to Africa, India and Southeast Asia to winter. Photo: Pinterest. 4. Usually forage by swimming in circles. Individuals can swim around each other in groups to stir up the sediment at the bottom of the water, making it easier to filter food. Photo: Pinterest.
5. A species that lives in wetlands. Spoonbill ducks often live in swamps, shallow lakes, and wet fields - places with abundant food and soft, easy-to-filter mud. Photo: Pinterest. 6. The nest is built hidden under the thick grass by the water. The female duck usually lays 9-12 eggs in a nest lined with grass and feathers, well covered to avoid predators and human intrusion. Just a few hours after hatching, ducklings can follow their mother to the water and begin learning how to forage, although they are still dependent on their mother in the early stages of their lives. 8. It is a bio-indicator species for freshwater ecosystems. The presence of spoonbill ducks in wetlands is a signal that the water environment is still clean and the plankton system is still balanced. Photo: Pinterest.
