Cost pressure
The decision to adjust electricity prices has had a significant impact on the production and business activities of many enterprises in Khanh Hoa . In particular, industries that consume a lot of energy such as seafood processing, mechanics, shipbuilding and textiles are greatly affected. In particular, with the characteristics of using many large-capacity machines and equipment, enterprises in the fields of textiles, mechanics and shipbuilding have to face the problem of increased operating and production costs. For Nha Trang Textile Joint Stock Company, HD Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. - customers who consume a large amount of electricity of Khanh Hoa Electricity Joint Stock Company, the impact is also more severe. Mr. Le Van Toan - Deputy General Director of HD Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. shared: “Every month, we consume about 15 billion VND of electricity. Currently, the 4.8% increase in electricity price will greatly affect the cost of products. Each month, the electricity bill will increase by about 700 million VND. Meanwhile, the orders that have been signed by the company since the beginning of the year, now the cost increase cannot be negotiated with customers. This directly affects the production and business process, reducing the competitive advantage when participating in bidding with other international shipbuilding enterprises”.

For the seafood processing industry, electricity plays an important role in the preservation and processing stages, so the increase in electricity prices also causes product costs to increase. According to the leader of Vietnam Tuna Company Limited (Suoi Dau Industrial Park), the increase in electricity prices has led to a significant increase in production costs, leading to an increase in product costs. This has forced seafood processing enterprises to recalculate the entire production process to optimize costs. Similarly, Thong Thuan Seafood Joint Stock Company (Suoi Dau Industrial Park) also uses a large amount of electricity for the freezing system, cold storage and processing lines. According to the management department, the increase in electricity prices has directly affected production costs and could affect export competitiveness if there are no timely response solutions.
Efforts to find solutions
With increasing cost pressure, businesses in Khanh Hoa are proactively implementing many solutions to save electricity and optimize production costs. Many seafood processing enterprises have begun to review the freezing process, invest in more energy-saving equipment and strengthen energy management; some enterprises are researching the application of solar energy solutions to reduce dependence on the national grid. Typically, Thong Thuan Seafood Joint Stock Company and Hai Vuong Company Limited have proposed to the authorities to allow enterprises to install rooftop energy systems to serve production in the current context. In the field of mechanics and shipbuilding, periodic maintenance and upgrading of old, energy-consuming machinery are also given more attention.

In the context of general difficulties, the business community in Khanh Hoa also expects timely and effective support from the local government. “In order to help businesses adapt to rising electricity prices, we hope to have the support of the State to create conditions for businesses to enjoy policies to encourage investment in renewable energy, and support businesses to access preferential capital sources to innovate technology. Consulting programs on effective energy management are considered practical solutions to help businesses overcome this period. The companionship and support from state management agencies play a key role in helping the business community of Khanh Hoa stabilize and develop sustainably,” Mr. Nguyen Quang Duy - Permanent Vice Chairman of the Khanh Hoa Young Entrepreneurs Association suggested.
Mr. NGUYEN SANH DUONG - Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade: The increase in electricity prices directly affects the production and business processes of enterprises. In the coming time, the Department of Industry and Trade will work with relevant authorities to facilitate enterprises to carry out necessary procedures to install additional renewable energy systems to partially resolve difficulties in electricity prices, while moving towards green energy sources for long-term production. For enterprises that want to innovate equipment and production lines to be more modern and consume less energy, the Department will also consider supporting through local and national industrial promotion projects.
