Coffee price today August 31, 2025: Slight increase again

In recent months, domestic coffee prices have not kept pace with world coffee prices but have been mainly influenced by domestic supply and demand. Many farmers with strong financial potential continue to hold on to their goods, not being pressured to sell. Therefore, there was a time when domestic coffee prices were more than 10,000 VND/kg higher than the world floor price.

In just about a month, Vietnam will enter a new harvest season. Localities have advised farmers to harvest coffee when the fruit is ripe to ensure productivity and improve product quality. This is expected to help maintain the competitive advantage of Vietnamese coffee in the export market.

In the short term, coffee prices could fluctuate sharply after the Conab report is released in September. This report is expected to clarify the risk of production shortages due to weather and climate factors, thereby directly affecting Brazil's 2026-2027 crop year.

In addition, many European corporations and importers are expected to increase purchases to ensure supply before the European Union (EU) deforestation ban officially takes effect later this year. Looking at the long term, the upward trend in coffee prices may still be maintained even when Vietnam enters a new harvest next month.

World coffee prices today

On the London Stock Exchange, the online price of Robusta coffee futures for September 2025 delivery closed at $5,001/ton, down 0.14% ($7/ton) from yesterday. The November 2025 futures contract increased 0.15% ($7/ton) to $4,815/ton.

Meanwhile, on the New York Stock Exchange, the price of Arabica coffee for September 2025 delivery increased by 2.35% (9.1 US cents/pound) compared to yesterday, to 396.85 US cents/pound. The December 2025 futures contract increased by 2.28% (8.6 US cents/pound), to 386.1 US cents/pound.

Coffee prices have shown an upward trend. According to Rabobank, although the rate of increase has slowed down compared to the previous period, the possibility of prices continuing to rise in the short term is still present. The main reason comes from speculative activities in the market, in the context of low inventories and limited liquidity.

Arabica coffee futures edged closer to a 3-1/2-month peak hit in the previous session, supported by disruptions to global trade after the United States imposed a 50% tariff on coffee imports from Brazil, Reuters reported.

Arabica coffee prices rose 2% last week and have risen 34% in the past four weeks. Speculative buying has increased sharply, while inventories on the market have decreased, forcing American roasters to urgently search for alternative sources.

However, some market experts surveyed by Reuters predict that coffee prices could correct lower later this year, depending on whether coffee production in Brazil and Vietnam improves, despite tariff factors that are causing major fluctuations in the global coffee trade.
