StoneX, a veteran US financial services company, also predicted a global coffee surplus of only 2-3 million bags in 2024/25, lower than the US Department of Agriculture's previous forecast of 5.6 million bags.

According to Bloomberg: Brazil, the world's leading coffee producer, is on track to harvest what appears to be a weaker-than-expected crop, a disappointing development given the already tight global market and rising prices.

Farmers are harvesting coffee beans that appear smaller than usual after coffee plants endured a period of heat and drought that damaged their growth. While the extent of the impact is currently uncertain, concerns have prompted a downward revision of Arabica coffee production estimates.

Arabica coffee futures prices are on track to rise for the fourth consecutive month and are up about 20% this year due to supply concerns. Robusta coffee prices are also projected to increase by more than 40% by 2024 due to production difficulties in key producing country Vietnam caused by drought.

This month, Marex Group cut its outlook for Brazilian coffee production to 44 million bags of arabica coffee in the current 2024-25 crop year. This compares to the March estimate of 46.6 million.
