Lilies in season
April lilies are always an indispensable part of living spaces, bringing freshness and special emotions to Hanoi's flower season.
Right at the beginning of the season, in key lily growing areas such as Tay Tuu (Bac Tu Liem) and Ha Mo (Dan Phuong), it was recorded that the area and yield of lilies this year decreased compared to last year. In addition, the quality of the flowers was uneven, the stems were short, and the colors were pale, making choosing a beautiful bouquet more time-consuming and laborious.

Talking to reporters from Cong Thuong Newspaper, Ms. Duong Thi Hang, owner of a flower garden in Tay Tuu, said that this season there is no shortage of flowers, but choosing a beautiful bouquet is more difficult. Due to the weather, gardeners must apply care measures such as regular watering, sun protection, lighting and fertilizing to maintain the quality of the flowers.
Similarly, Mr. Pham Van Chinh - a flower grower in Ha Mo (Dan Phuong, Hanoi) - shared that although this year's flower output is lower than last year, the wholesale price at the garden is currently ranging from 170,000 - 200,000 VND/bunch of 100 flowers, about 20-30% higher than the same period last year.
According to growers, the increase in selling prices is due to increased care costs and the quality of flowers is not as good as in previous years.

High flower prices but still attract customers
Although the price of lilies has increased significantly, the flower market has not lost purchasing power. At Quang An flower market, a bunch of 20 flowers costs from 50,000 to 60,000 VND, and a bunch of 100 flowers ranges from 220,000 to 250,000 VND, an increase of about 30% compared to last year.
Mr. Hoang, a trader at Quang Ba market, said that the price of flowers imported from the garden has increased, so the retail price has also increased. However, because lilies are a typical seasonal flower of April, people still buy them in large numbers, despite the increase in price.
In addition to the traditional flower market, the online market is also very vibrant. On platforms such as Facebook and Zalo, sellers post photos of flowers in the garden, receive orders and deliver them the same day. The price of a bouquet of 20 lilies, including shipping, ranges from 80,000 to 100,000 VND, depending on the packaging and delivery address.

Ms. Nguyen Huong, owner of an online flower shop on Nguyen Phong Sac Street (Cau Giay), said that her customers are mainly office workers and busy people. Although shipping and packaging costs have increased, consumers still order a lot because everyone wants a little April atmosphere in their living space.
Despite the price increase, the purchasing power of lilies in Hanoi remains stable. It is recorded that at many retail points in the Old Quarter, West Lake, Cau Giay, etc., hundreds of bunches can be consumed every day. According to Ms. Le Yen, a flower seller on Hang Trong Street (Hoan Kiem, Hanoi), this year's lilies do not have as many petals as in previous years, but they are still very popular. Many people buy a bunch of 100 flowers to arrange and divide into many vases.
Ms. Linh Chi, a customer living in Dong Da district, drove nearly 10 km to Quang An flower market to choose a bouquet of lilies that she liked . "Every year I wait until April to buy lilies. Although this year the price is high and the flowers are not as beautiful as before, I still decided to buy them. To me, lilies are not just flowers, but also emotions, memories of a very special Hanoi in April, " said Ms. Linh Chi.
It is predicted that the price of lilies will continue to increase in the coming time, however, the purchasing power of Hanoi people will hardly decrease, because this is a type of flower that many people love every April. |
