
Electricity prices are rising.
EVN stated that this electricity price adjustment will ensure that poor households and families receiving social welfare benefits are minimally affected. Poor households and those receiving social welfare benefits will continue to receive support as stipulated in Decision No. 28/2014 of the Prime Minister . Regarding the impact of the price increase on electricity costs for residential customers, those using 200 kWh or less will see only a small increase. Residential customers will pay between 4,550 VND and over 65,050 VND per month, depending on their usage. However, for households using 201 kWh or more, the increase will be higher. According to EVN's calculations, for the business and service customer group (approximately 574,000 customers nationwide), the average increase per customer will be 332,000 VND per month. For manufacturing customers (approximately 1.98 million nationwide), after the price adjustment, each customer will pay an average of 677,000 VND more per month. For administrative and public service customers (a total of 719,000 customers), after the price change, each customer will pay an average of 125,000 VND more per month. The increase in electricity prices will more or less affect the living expenses of people, households, businesses, and enterprises; all customer groups are concerned about using electricity economically, safely, and efficiently in their daily lives, business operations, and production to optimize costs.
Flexible energy saving
Meanwhile, the Department of Science and Technology supports people and businesses by organizing workshops to introduce many optimal energy-saving devices at suitable prices, creating a spacious working environment and reducing electricity costs for living, production, and business. Currently, many dragon fruit farms in the province have installed and are installing well-known brand LED bulbs to replace incandescent bulbs for off-season dragon fruit cultivation; the electricity cost for lighting has decreased compared to before. EDEN HUB Agricultural Technology Joint Stock Company in Ham Thuan Bac commune, specializing in growing medicinal plants, ginger, lemongrass, and extracting aromatic and hot oils, previously used a grid-powered irrigation system for its farm, but has now installed solar power for irrigation. Mr. Nguyen Van Duc, Director of EDEN HUB Company, said: “Currently, solar power installations have installment payment programs, with a 20% down payment and the remaining balance paid over 5 years. Our company invested 220 million VND to install a 30 kW solar power system; we expect to generate 3,612 kWh per month. The electricity produced is sufficient for irrigating the farm during the day; the cost is lower than the investment cost of installing a transformer to connect to the grid.”
Currently, during the hot summer months, electrical engineering experts are advising numerous residential electricity customers that prolonged hot weather significantly increases the demand for cooling devices such as air conditioners. The electricity consumption of air conditioners alone in a household can account for 60-70% of total electricity consumption. Furthermore, a 1°C increase in outdoor temperature can lead to a 2-3% increase in air conditioner consumption. Along with this, EVN (Vietnam Electricity) and the Lam Dong power sector are advising offices, production facilities, and residents to use electricity safely, economically, and efficiently, especially during peak hours at noon and in the evening, from 11:30 AM to 3:00 PM and from 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM. In addition to using air conditioners efficiently, people should avoid using multiple high-power electrical appliances (such as air conditioners, electric stoves, electric irons, etc.) simultaneously to minimize the risk of localized overloading of the power grid, ensure efficient electricity use for customers, and prevent sudden spikes in electricity bills due to excessively high electricity consumption.
