Since 2023, Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) has increased electricity prices four times with a total increase of 17.1%. Specifically, in 2023, EVN increased electricity prices twice with increases of 3% and 4.5% respectively. Next, in November 2024, EVN continued to adjust electricity prices by 4.8% and most recently (May 10, 2025), EVN increased electricity prices by 4.8%.

The electricity price adjustment from May 10, 2025, combined with hot weather and increased electricity demand, has led to many fluctuations in the electricity bills of businesses in the area in May, resulting in additional costs.

Accordingly, the company uses a system of machines that consume a lot of electricity such as lathes, CNC milling machines, etc. The high price of electricity in the context of production and business facing difficulties is a pressure on the company.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Cuong - Director of Duc Tai Industrial Mechanical Joint Stock Company said: “Due to political instability, trade war and tariff policy, in the past few months, we have had to stop export orders, only serving the domestic market. In the context of increasing raw material prices, increasing production costs along with increasing electricity prices, the company has incurred additional costs. In May 2025, electricity prices increased by 4.8% along with hot weather, so the company's electricity bill increased by about 18 million VND compared to the previous month. Electricity prices increased by 4.8% from May 10, 2025, which means that each year, the company incurs relatively large costs, which is a disadvantage for small-scale businesses like us.”

According to Mr. Nguyen Huu Cuong, in the immediate future, the company will step up propaganda for staff and workers to seriously implement energy-saving solutions, and continue to review and replace equipment and machinery that have been used for many years. Regarding long-term solutions, the company is applying to rent land in the industrial park to invest in building a factory that meets standards, installing a solar power system to self-supply electricity for production and reduce pressure on the power grid.

Investing in rooftop solar power installation is a feasible solution to help businesses proactively source electricity for production and business.

Vinatex Hong Linh Joint Stock Company (Hong Linh Town) is one of the enterprises that uses a lot of electricity for production (the company's electricity consumption in 2024 is 12.2 million kWh - PV). The increase in electricity prices creates more "pressure" on the unit when the monthly cost is about 100 million VND.

According to the representative of Vinatex Hong Linh Joint Stock Company, to save electricity, the company has registered to participate in the electricity load adjustment (DR) according to the recommendations of EVN. Accordingly, the unit builds a working plan based on limiting production during peak hours, gradually shifting to production during off-peak hours; arranging machines to operate in rotation, limiting the use of machines at the same time. At the same time, the company focuses on investing in new technology machines to save electricity, eliminating equipment that causes large electricity loss; focusing on maintenance and repair of machines and the factory's electrical system according to the recommendations of the professional sector.

Ha Tinh currently has 68 enterprises participating in electricity load adjustment (DR).

The good news is that many businesses are now interested in the load adjustment (DR) solution in the energy saving program. According to the Business Department - Ha Tinh Electricity Company, the whole province currently has 68 business customers who have signed DR agreements (an increase of 20 businesses compared to the same period in 2024). Some businesses that have just joined DR include: Anh Duc LLC, Ha Tinh Construction and Materials Trading Joint Stock Company (Thach Ha), Dai Bang Tourism and Trading Joint Stock Company (Ha Tinh City)...

According to research, in the context of increasing electricity prices, installing rooftop solar power is also a feasible option for some businesses in the area. Ms. Van Thi Huong Tram - Chief Accountant of Sao Mai Joint Stock Company (Bac Cam Xuyen Industrial Park) said: Participating in supplying packaging for export and domestic markets, the company's production line system is highly automated, consuming a lot of electricity. Accordingly, the unit consumes about 1 billion VND of electricity/month. To reduce pressure when electricity prices increase, the company has installed a rooftop solar power system, so in addition to proactively providing electricity for production, at some points, the unit can also sell electricity to the electricity industry.

To save electricity, businesses need to purchase modern machinery to replace old, energy-consuming equipment.

According to Ha Tinh Electricity Company, to save electricity, businesses in the area need to strengthen internal savings from building and strictly implementing regulations on saving electricity from each officer, employee to the whole group. At the same time, it is necessary to focus on cleaning and periodic maintenance of machinery and equipment. For businesses with their own transformer stations, it is necessary to coordinate with the electricity industry to deploy technical solutions according to regulations; pay attention to investing in modern machinery to replace old equipment that consumes a lot of electricity.

The electricity industry continues to call on business customers to actively participate in DR, that is, limit electricity use during peak hours or shift electricity use from peak hours to off-peak hours; prioritize the use of renewable energy, invest resources in installing rooftop solar power to proactively source electricity and reduce pressure on the national grid, especially during the hot season...
