Báo Công thươngBáo Công thương28/01/2025

Abundant and diverse supply, combined with promotional programs, helped keep prices of Tet goods stable on the last day of the Year of the Dragon.

Fresh produce and vegetables are in high demand.

A quick report on the market situation of some Tet holiday items from the Domestic Market Department - Ministry of Industry and Trade clearly states that on the fourth day of the Lunar New Year holiday, which is also the last day of the old year (the 29th day of the lunar month), shopping focused mainly on fresh food and vegetables for preparing the year-end ancestral worship meal.

Although shopping activity at supermarkets increased sharply in the days leading up to Tet (50-100% compared to normal days), supermarkets and shopping malls have made arrangements to replenish goods on shelves, ensuring a plentiful and diverse supply of items for Tet, combined with many promotional and discount programs, and prices remain stable compared to previous days.

Retail channels have prepared ample supplies of goods, along with many attractive promotional programs.

Previously, in an interview with a reporter from the Industry and Trade Newspaper, a representative of the WinMart/WinMart+/WiN retail chain stated that, in preparation for the peak Tet (Lunar New Year) season of the Year of the Snake and to meet the increasingly diverse shopping needs of customers, the WinMart/WinMart+/WiN retail chain proactively worked with suppliers 2 to 3 months before Tet to increase inventory by 20% compared to the same period last year, ensuring an abundant supply and preventing shortages or sudden price increases.

According to Hanoi Trade Corporation (Hapro), to meet the shopping needs of people before, during, and after the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake, the BRGMart supermarket system has coordinated with suppliers to increase Tet holiday goods reserves by 2-3 times compared to other months of the year.

At local markets, supplies have also been increased and are quite abundant to meet the shopping needs of the people. Spring fairs, Tet markets, flower markets, etc., continue to take place to serve the shopping and sightseeing needs of the people.

Commodity prices remain stable.

By the morning of the 29th day of the Lunar New Year, the prices of most essential goods for Tet (Lunar New Year) had not experienced any sudden fluctuations and remained relatively stable compared to the previous day. Compared to the same period last year, the prices of vegetables and some types of flowers such as chrysanthemums, lilies, gladioli, and roses were about 5-10% cheaper and there was no shortage; pork prices were about 15-25% higher because live pig prices remained stable at a high level throughout 2024 compared to 2023.

By the 29th day of the Lunar New Year (January 28, 2015), the prices of some goods had remained basically stable compared to the previous day.

Specifically, for food items, the prices of regular white rice, high-quality white rice, and delicious glutinous rice for the Lunar New Year tend to remain stable compared to the previous day.

Specifically, the price of high-quality white rice in the North ranges from 25,000 to 42,000 VND/kg; the price of glutinous rice ranges from 29,000 to 38,000 VND/kg; in the South, the price of high-quality white rice ranges from 22,000 to 38,000 VND/kg; the price of glutinous rice ranges from 27,000 to 34,000 VND/kg.

For fresh food items, as Tet approaches, prices at local markets tend to increase slightly due to high demand, but supply remains sufficient to meet consumer needs. Prices of pork, beef, and mackerel (in the South) have increased slightly by 5,000-10,000 VND/kg compared to the previous day. Currently, common pork prices are: pork loin 110,000-120,000 VND/kg, pork tenderloin and belly 130,000-160,000 VND/kg; beef tenderloin (Grade I) 250,000-280,000 VND/kg; free-range chicken 120,000-150,000 VND/kg; and large shrimp (26-30 shrimp/kg) 400,000-450,000 VND/kg.

Regarding vegetables and fruits: Although the weather has turned cold, the supply of vegetables and fruits is quite abundant and diverse, so prices remain stable. The current prices for some common vegetables are as follows: cabbage: 10,000-15,000 VND/head, kohlrabi: 5,000 VND/piece, lettuce: 15,000-30,000 VND/kg, tomatoes: 10,000-15,000 VND/kg (depending on the locality), potatoes: 15,000-20,000 VND/kg, cauliflower: 10,000-15,000 VND/head...

Regarding fruit, the prices of some popular and delicious fruits used for offerings during Tet (Lunar New Year) tend to remain stable compared to the previous day, while dragon fruit and mandarin oranges tend to increase locally in some areas. Specifically: Dragon fruit 60,000-90,000 VND/kg; Cat mango 50,000-60,000 VND/kg; mandarin orange 50,000-77,000 VND/kg; Dien pomelo 20,000-25,000 VND/kg; imported apples 100,000-120,000 VND/kg; green bananas 100,000-250,000 VND/bunch (depending on size and location)...

Flowers and ornamental plants continued to be popular items purchased by people today, partly to ensure they bloomed early during Tet (Lunar New Year) and partly to take advantage of discounts closer to the holiday. People are increasingly opting for smaller peach, kumquat, and apricot blossom trees with beautiful shapes, planted in attractive pots and containers, or for exotic and beautiful plants like orchids, magnolias, and snowdrops for Tet decorations. Prices for some types of flowers remained relatively stable compared to the previous day. Prices for some popular flowers are as follows: Lilies from 200,000 - 350,000 VND per dozen depending on the type; gladioli from 80,000 - 100,000 VND per dozen; chrysanthemums around 40,000 - 60,000 VND per dozen; roses 50,000 - 70,000 VND per dozen...

The prices of peach blossoms and kumquat trees for Tet (Lunar New Year) celebrations remain high compared to last year due to limited supply in some growing regions in the North following the impact of typhoon number 3.

For processed food items, prices remained stable compared to the 28th day of the lunar month because production and processing facilities had prepared their supplies in advance. Specifically: The price of pork sausage is currently commonly between 150,000-170,000 VND/kg, beef sausage is around 280,000-300,000 VND/kg, and sticky rice cakes (Banh Chung) range from 50,000-70,000 VND/piece (depending on size and weight).

The demand for alcoholic beverages, beer, and confectionery, which people had purchased in previous days, has now decreased. Prices for these items remain stable compared to the previous day. Specifically, the prices of some popular items are as follows: Hanoi canned beer: 270,000-280,000 VND/case; Saigon Special canned beer: 340,000-350,000 VND/case; Heineken canned beer: 450,000-460,000 VND/case; Coca-Cola and Pepsi: 180,000-190,000 VND/case; Hanoi Vodka 700ml: 120,000-130,000 VND/bottle; Hanoi jam: 65,000-108,000 VND/box (200-300 grams). Sunflower seeds are priced from 80,000 to 120,000 VND/kg…

The Domestic Market Department forecasts that the abundant and diverse supply of goods will give consumers many choices at various price points depending on their income, especially for food items.

Previously, the Ministry of Finance issued a quick report on the market price situation during the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake 2025. According to the report, prices of essential goods increased slightly at traditional markets but remained stable at supermarkets and shopping malls. The supply of goods was abundant, diverse, and varied, meeting the shopping needs of the people.

According to business reports, supermarkets will continue to offer year-end promotions and discounts. In addition, extended operating hours and early announcements of reopening schedules after Tet, or even opening throughout the holiday period like Aeon and Circle K, will help curb hoarding, thus generally preventing significant price fluctuations in the market.
