* Mr. Nguyen Kim Doan, Vice President of Dong Nai Livestock Association, said that most livestock farmers share the same thought that the price of live pigs is unstable, so they do not proactively restore their herds because raising pigs is not profitable. Another reason is that due to concerns about the impact of African swine fever, large livestock companies in both Vietnam and abroad such as Masan and Dabaco have also reduced their herds.
Commenting on the issue of low herd restoration by farmers and businesses, whether pork prices will increase at the end of the year or not, Mr. Doan said that in fact, pork prices will increase but not much, because corporations have invested heavily, in large quantities, so they cannot stop raising pigs like farmers.
Regarding the current pig herd rate nationwide, Mr. Duong Tat Thang, Director of the Department of Livestock Production (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) said that the total pig herd in the country is currently 27.8 million. With the current pig herd rate, it can basically meet the demand for pork and pork products in the domestic market from now until the end of the year, especially during Tet.
