According to experts, the price of live pigs in the North and some Central regions increased mainly due to high demand, especially as the end of the year approaches.
This price increase is mainly due to increased demand for pork at the end of the year and during Tet, putting pressure on supply and pushing up live pig prices in areas with high purchasing power such as the North and Central regions.
In addition, the increase in feed prices and livestock costs also makes it difficult for livestock farmers. To cover costs, they have to increase selling prices, affecting the price of live pigs.
In addition, the impact of African swine fever and other diseases remains a major concern for the livestock industry. This disease has forced farmers to be cautious in restocking, reducing pork supply in many places.
Faced with the fluctuating price of live pigs, experts recommend:
- For farmers: Closely monitor the market and plan for reasonable herd restoration to take advantage of opportunities when pork prices increase. At the same time, it is necessary to strengthen disease prevention, especially African swine fever, to minimize risks and protect products.
- For consumers: Given the rising pork prices, you can consider buying a moderate amount of reserves or switching to alternative foods to save costs during Tet if prices continue to rise.
