Gia Lai: Do not interrupt criminal investigation after dissolving district-level police

After dissolving the District Police, the Provincial Police Investigation Agency took over 8 task groups of the District Police Investigation Agency.

On March 3, 2025, the Director of the Provincial Police Department issued Decision No. 1234/QD-CAT-PV01 to establish 4 Criminal Investigation Teams to fight and prevent regional crimes located in the areas of Pleiku, An Khe, Ayun Pa and Chu Prong with a total staff of 179 officers and soldiers under the Provincial Police Investigation Agency.

Up to now, the Regional Investigation Teams and Commune-level Police have arranged criminal duty, publicized the criminal duty phone number, leaders and commanders in charge to receive information on cases and incidents occurring in the area; coordinated with Commune-level Police to initially handle cases and incidents occurring in a timely, urgent manner, in accordance with regulations on authority, assignment and decentralization.

Determined not to let work backlog or be interrupted, the Head of the Provincial Police Investigation Agency issued a Plan, mobilizing all forces to focus on resolving cases and incidents from the District Police Investigation Agency within 2 months.

Accordingly, from April 2 to May 30, the Provincial Police Investigation Agency completed the handling of 172 case files; resolved 149 cases; received 637 reports on security and order, of which the Regional Investigation Teams received 530 reports. Thereby, 329 reports were verified and resolved, 213 were prosecuted.

Also during the above period, the Provincial Police Investigation Agency handled and investigated 648 cases/860 defendants. Of which, the departments under the Provincial Police handled 222 cases/367 defendants; the Regional Investigation Teams handled 426 cases/493 defendants. The Police Investigation Agency concluded the investigation, proposed to prosecute 153 cases/321 defendants; at the same time, arrested and persuaded 6 subjects to surrender, including 4 dangerous and especially dangerous subjects.

The police of communes, wards and towns have effectively promoted their role in fighting and preventing crime at the grassroots level when there is no longer a district police station; gradually improved the quality of receiving, classifying, verifying and handling denunciations and reports of crimes; handled sources of information about crimes and investigated and handled cases; effectively supported the activities of the Provincial Police Investigation Police force.

Speaking at the Conference, Colonel Duong Van Long - Deputy Director of the Provincial Police praised the efforts and struggles of officers and soldiers to promptly keep up with the change in model and organization of the new apparatus, meeting the requirements of ensuring security and order in the area. The Deputy Director of the Provincial Police also directed the Regional Investigation Teams, in addition to receiving and handling cases and incidents, to be proactive, coordinate, and guide the Commune Police to closely follow the area, grasp the situation; promptly detect and resolve complicated issues arising right at the grassroots level. It is necessary to strictly implement regulations on receiving and handling denunciations and reports of crimes, recommending prosecution and investigating and handling crimes, not allowing injustice, mistakes, or letting criminals escape.
