Gia Lai tightens defense against smuggling and trade fraud on the border

Le Thanh International Border Guard Station manages and protects 16.2 km of border in Ia Dom commune, adjacent to the Kingdom of Cambodia. At this border gate, trade and immigration activities are bustling. Officers and soldiers of Le Thanh International Border Guard Station closely coordinate with the province's functional forces to strengthen inspection of people and vehicles entering and leaving the country, detect and strictly handle violations.

Major Nguyen Xuan Nam, Deputy Chief of the Le Thanh International Border Guard Station, said: “The unit identifies crime prevention and control as a key and regular task, closely linked to the management and protection of border lines and landmarks. The officers and soldiers of the unit always uphold a sense of responsibility, are not afraid of hardship, and are determined and persistent in effectively fighting all types of crime, contributing to ensuring security and order in border areas and maintaining national sovereignty .

In addition, the unit also focuses on grasping the local situation, coordinating to disseminate laws to people, businesses and cross-border transport drivers, thereby improving the effectiveness of preventing and combating acts of trade fraud, smuggling and counterfeit goods on the assigned border lines.

“From the beginning of 2025 until now, the Le Thanh International Border Guard Station has coordinated to detect 12 cases/22 subjects violating the law. Particularly during the peak period of fighting and suppressing crime, the Station coordinated to arrest 1 case/2 subjects illegally possessing drugs, 2 cases/8 subjects illegally gambling, 7 cases/8 subjects violating regulations on entry and exit” - Major Nguyen Xuan Nam added.

Border residents proactively fight smuggling

Regularly transporting passengers from Cambodia to Vietnam through Le Thanh International Border Gate, driver Truong Van Loc (residing in Pleiku ward) shared: “I always obey the law, do not transport prohibited goods or explosives. When passing through the border gate, border guards and customs officers check very carefully. I also regularly remind passengers not to bring illegal goods when entering Vietnam.”

Similarly, the fight against trade fraud at the border with Cambodia is also being vigorously implemented by the Ia Puch Border Guard Station (Ia Puch Commune). The area under the management of the unit has many trails, openings, and rugged mountainous terrain, so smugglers take advantage of this to transport goods illegally, especially at night or in bad weather.

To prevent this situation, Ia Puch Border Guard Station has arranged independent teams and teams and coordinated with the regular militia force and the Commune Police to organize day and night patrols inland and along the border. In addition, the unit also organizes legal propaganda sessions in the commune to raise awareness among people, helping them understand violations such as illegal transportation of goods and not assisting in smuggling.

Thanks to that, in the past 7 months, there have been no incidents related to the trade of counterfeit goods or cross-border trade fraud in the commune. Major Ro O Thuy - Deputy Political Commissar of Ia Puch Border Guard Station - said: "The unit determined that to effectively prevent and combat crime, it must rely on the people. Therefore, we have stepped up propaganda work to each village, especially households living near the border area. Thanks to that, people not only raise their awareness of the law but also actively participate in denouncing smugglers and not assisting in trade fraud. From the beginning of June 2025 to now, the unit has coordinated with the Commune People's Committee to organize 10 propaganda sessions in 4/4 villages, hamlets and rubber companies in the area".

According to the Chief of Ia Nan Border Guard Station (Ia Nan commune), from May 15 to June 30, 2025, the unit has launched a peak campaign to mobilize the masses to attack and suppress crimes, fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods in the border area.

In particular, the unit has coordinated with the police and the commune People's Committee to organize a launching ceremony for the movement to fight against all types of crimes related to trade fraud, smuggling, illegal transportation of goods across the border, as well as drug crimes in the locality. Up to now, the locality has not recorded any cases related to the above violations.
