The raw rice market in localities such as An Giang, Dong Thap, and Tien Giang recorded low import volume, increasing demand for white rice, especially beautiful, high-quality raw rice. In An Giang, warehouses still regularly purchase but the amount of rice imported is not much. Lap Vo (Dong Thap) and An Cu (Tien Giang) both have moderate transactions, prices are generally stable.

Raw rice prices today have not fluctuated compared to yesterday. Specifically, CL 555 is at 8,600 - 8,900 VND/kg, OM 380 remains in the range of 8,000 - 8,100 VND/kg, IR 504 is from 8,200 - 8,400 VND/kg, OM 18 fluctuates from 10,200 - 10,400 VND/kg, and Jasmine remains high at 17,000 - 18,000 VND/kg.

At retail markets, the prices of rice of all kinds remained unchanged. Fragrant rice was commonly priced at 18,000 - 22,000 VND/kg, regular rice ranged from 15,000 - 16,000 VND/kg, while Thai fragrant rice, Huong Lai rice and specialties such as Nang Nhen, Nang Hoa, Soc Thai, and Japanese rice remained at 20,000 - 28,000 VND/kg.

The price of sticky rice group continues to be stable. IR 4625 sticky rice (fresh) remains at 7,700 - 7,900 VND/kg, 3-month dried sticky rice is from 9,600 - 9,700 VND/kg, and IR 4625 sticky rice (dry) is in the range of 7,900 - 8,000 VND/kg.

In the by-product group, broken rice and rice husks remained at the same price. Broken rice 2 was at 7,100 - 7,200 VND/kg, rice husks remained at 1,000 - 1,150 VND/kg. Only bran prices increased slightly, currently reaching 7,100 - 7,350 VND/kg, the highest level in recent days.

Rice prices in the provinces in the region also recorded a stable state. Dry rice transactions were slow, supply was sporadic. In An Giang, the summer-autumn rice was harvested early but sold slowly, traders bought in small amounts. Export rice price

In the export market, Vietnamese rice prices continue to remain competitive. According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), the price of 5% broken rice is currently at 397 USD/ton, higher than the same type of rice from India (381 USD/ton) and Pakistan (389 USD/ton), but still lower than that of Thailand (410 USD/ton). The prices of 25% broken rice and 100% broken rice from Vietnam are 368 USD/ton and 323 USD/ton, respectively.

Amid military tensions between India and Pakistan, the international market has been concerned about the possibility of disruption in the supply of Basmati rice. However, Indian rice exporters’ associations have asserted that the current political situation has not affected trade.

Satish Goel, President of the All India Rice Exporters Association (AIREA), said that the increase in rice prices was due to increased demand and not any disruption in the supply chain. He also said that orders from India to key markets such as Saudi Arabia, Iran and Iraq were being processed normally without any hindrance.

Former AIREA Chairman Vijay Sethia shared that the price of Basmati 1509 rice had fallen sharply from Rs 62/kg in September 2024 to Rs 52/kg in February 2025 due to a high yield. However, since March 2025, the price has recovered to Rs 58/kg due to increased demand from major markets.

In the 2024-25 financial year, India is expected to export around 6 million tonnes of Basmati rice, while Pakistan is expected to export around 1 million tonnes. Despite the ongoing military operation called “Sindoor”, the rice trade between the two countries has remained stable. This shows the high adaptability and resilience of the rice industry in the face of possible geopolitical risks.
