At the regular press conference of the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) on the evening of April 6, Ms. Tran Thi Thu Hien, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Internet Center, said that violations of the law on cyberspace are becoming increasingly sophisticated, manifested in many different forms such as: Creating fake websites of agencies, businesses, banks, and trading floors to defraud and appropriate property, along with many other forms of violations.

According to Ms. Hien, domain names are one of the means to access and exchange information on the internet, which can be through forms such as websites and emails. Therefore, domain names are easily abused for counterfeiting and fraud, which greatly affects the economy and society .

The common feature of violations is often the use of international domain names registered abroad, concealing the subject's information.

“Fraudulent and illegal acts on the internet are becoming increasingly sophisticated and difficult to identify, partly due to the inability to verify the website owner and domain name,” Ms. Hien said.

Ms. Hien informed that in 2021 and 2022, the Vietnam Internet Center coordinated to provide information on more than 1,819 domain names (including 1,683 international domain names, accounting for 92.5% registered abroad using the subject information hiding service) to competent authorities for handling violations.

In addition, it received and processed the temporary suspension and revocation of 498 domain names related to violations of impersonating press agencies, general electronic information sites, online gambling, banking and financial fraud, illegal trading of medical products and functional foods.

In order to contribute to preventing and stopping fraudulent activities and violations of the law, the Ministry of Information and Communications has built and deployed the Domain Name Information Lookup Portal to support people, organizations and businesses in identifying and authenticating official information sources on the network environment.

Ms. Hien said that with official information and data sources from the domain name management database of the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Domain Name Lookup Portal is an effective support tool for users in identifying official information sources on the network environment.

Thereby, contributing to preventing and stopping fraudulent acts and violations of the law related to the use of domain names in the network environment.

In addition to fraud through fake bank and business websites, phone fraud is a serious problem. In March alone, the Ministry of Information and Communications discovered and transferred to the authorities 8 cases of using fake BTS stations to spread spam, advertising messages, and fake messages .
