Pepper prices today in key growing areas increased sharply again compared to yesterday. Thereby, the domestic pepper price level is from 142,500 VND/kg to 146,000 VND/kg.

In the Central Highlands region, pepper price today in Dak Lak increased again by 1,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday, currently at 145,000 VND/kg.

Pepper price today in Gia Lai increased by 500 VND/kg compared to yesterday, currently at 142,500 VND/kg.

Pepper price today in Lam Dong (formerly Dak Nong ) increased by 3,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday, currently at 146,000 VND/kg.

In the Southeast region, pepper price today in Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Ba Ria - Vung Tau) is currently at 144,000 VND/kg, an increase of 1000 VND/kg compared to yesterday. Dong Nai increased by 1000 VND/kg compared to yesterday at 144,000 VND/kg.

In addition, pepper price today in Dong Nai (former Binh Phuoc) increased by 3,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday, currently at 144,000 VND/kg.

Pepper price today August 23, 2025: Strong increase again

Pepper prices are on the rise today. Vietnamese pepper farmers benefit from the US imposing very high import tariffs on transit goods, up to 40%. This makes pepper imported into Vietnam lose its advantage, and businesses exporting to the US are forced to buy domestic pepper to enjoy lower tariffs.

However, one obstacle is the new VAT, which makes many businesses hesitant and reduce purchases in the hope that this policy will be postponed or adjusted.

According to customs data, in the first 7 months of the year, Vietnam imported nearly 31,500 tons of pepper, a sharp increase of 58.5% over the same period from countries such as Brazil, Cambodia and Indonesia. Meanwhile, pepper exports decreased by 12%, with a volume of 145,300 tons.

The US, Germany and India are Vietnam's three main export markets. It is expected that from now until the end of the year, businesses will increase domestic pepper purchases for export, with the expectation that pepper prices will rise back to 160,000 - 170,000 VND/kg.

Pepper price today August 23 in the world market

In the world market, based on quotes from export enterprises and export prices in various countries, the International Pepper Community (IPC) has updated the prices of all types of pepper traded in the international market on August 22 (local time) as follows:

Indonesian Lampung black pepper prices increased again compared to yesterday at 7,154 USD/ton (up 0.04%). In addition, Muntok white pepper prices increased slightly compared to yesterday at 10,001 USD/ton (up 0.05%).

Brazilian ASTA black pepper price increased sharply compared to yesterday at 6,000 USD/ton (up 2.56%).

The price of Malaysian ASTA black pepper increased sharply compared to yesterday, currently at 9,600 USD/ton (up 2.08%). In addition, the price of ASTA white pepper of this country also increased sharply compared to yesterday, reaching 12,800 USD/ton (up 0.78%).

Prices of all types of pepper in Vietnam remained unchanged compared to yesterday. Of which, the price of Vietnamese black pepper 500 gr/l reached 6,240 USD/ton; 550 gr/l reached 6,370 USD/ton.

Similarly, Vietnam's white pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $8,950/ton.

Global pepper production in 2025 is estimated at 434,000 tonnes, roughly the same as last year, according to the report. Vietnam is expected to harvest 172,000 tonnes, down 2% from last year and nearly half the peak in 2018/19 due to reduced planting areas. To make up for the shortfall in supply, pepper imports in the first half of the year increased by 57% to 28,000 tonnes.

While Vietnam’s output is down, Brazil’s is expected to reach 89,000 tonnes, up 26% thanks to improved yields and expanded acreage. In contrast, India’s output is forecast to fall 20% to 48,000 tonnes due to unfavorable weather, while Indonesia’s is forecast to reach 37,000 tonnes.

In terms of exports, Vietnam's pepper exports in the first half of 2025 decreased by 13% to 124,000 tons. Exports to the US decreased by 27%, but to China increased by 25%. Brazil became a prominent competitor with exports increasing by 34% to 50,000 tons, of which exports to Vietnam nearly tripled.

World pepper prices have stabilized after a sharp increase in late 2024. However, tariffs from the US continue to cause instability, strongly affecting Vietnam, while Brazil is less affected.
