World gold price today 5/20/2025 and world gold price fluctuation chart in the past 24 hours
According to Kitco, the world gold price recorded at 3:00 p.m. today, Vietnam time, was 3,222.37 USD/ounce. Today's gold price decreased by 13.39 USD/ounce compared to yesterday. Converted according to the USD exchange rate at Vietcombank (26,140 VND/USD), the world gold price is about 102.62 million VND/tael (excluding taxes and fees). Thus, the price of SJC gold bars is 16.68 million VND/tael higher than the international gold price.
World gold prices fell slightly as the USD partially recovered after the previous decline, while optimistic signals about the possibility of ceasefire negotiations between Russia and Ukraine reduced demand for safe-haven assets such as gold.
Specifically, spot gold prices fell 0.41%, while US gold futures also fell 0.6% to $3,215.6 an ounce. The US dollar rose slightly after hitting its lowest level in more than a week in the previous session, making gold more expensive for investors using other currencies.
According to Kyle Rodda, a market analyst at Capital.com, the market is gradually reacting to the US credit downgrade, while expectations for peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine are also making gold less attractive. Previously, US President Donald Trump announced that the two countries would soon begin negotiations to reach a ceasefire agreement.
Gold prices, however, found support as they fell below $3,200 an ounce. However, many analysts believe that gold could continue to fall if geopolitical tensions continue to ease and U.S. bond yields rise due to fiscal policy.
Gold, considered a safe haven asset in times of economic and political uncertainty, has been on a roll this year, rising 22% since the start of the year. Moody's downgraded the US credit rating from "Aaa" to "Aa1" late last week, citing higher US debt and interest rates compared to other countries with similar ratings.
Meanwhile, the US Federal Reserve (Fed) is still carefully monitoring the impact of the credit rating downgrade as well as market fluctuations in the context of many risks in the economy. Several Fed officials are expected to speak today, which could provide more clues about the economic outlook and the path of monetary policy.
The market currently expects the Fed to cut interest rates by at least 54 basis points this year, with the first likely to come in October.
Besides gold, spot silver fell 0.4% to $32.23 an ounce, while platinum rose 0.8% to $1,005.45. Palladium was almost unchanged at $974.70.
