However, experts say that gold is still on an upward trend thanks to expectations that the US Federal Reserve (FED) will cut interest rates this month, thereby boosting demand for safe haven gold.

Traders are now betting on a 97% chance the Fed will cut interest rates by 25 basis points at its September 17 policy meeting, up from 92% before the new data, according to CME Group's FedWatch tool.
