“The airline will increase capacity on key routes and tourist routes such as between Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and prominent destinations including Da Nang, Can Tho, Phu Quoc, Hue, Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa, Quy Nhon, Pleiku, Chu Lai, Dong Hoi, etc. to meet the increasing demand for travel, visiting relatives and relaxation during major holidays. Currently, the flight occupancy rate on some routes is 70 - 80%,” added a representative of Vietnam Airlines.
Flights to/from Tan Son Nhat are at the top
According to statistics from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, during the peak holiday season of April 30 and May 1 on domestic routes, Vietnamese airlines are expected to operate 7,536 flights (an average of 685 flights/day), an increase of 24% and 21% respectively; providing about 1.5 million seats, an increase of 20% compared to the flight schedule before increasing flights and 22% compared to the same period last year.
Of which, the largest proportion is flights to/from Ho Chi Minh City with 5,083 flights (average 462 flights/day), up 21% and 21% respectively; supply reached 1.03 million seats, up 21% and 21.9% respectively.
Particularly for the route connecting Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnamese airlines plan to operate 1,261 flights, up 8% and 16% respectively; providing 305,000 seats, up 7% and 11% respectively compared to the flight schedule before increasing flights and the same period in 2024.
To ensure the people's travel needs are convenient and safe, the Civil Aviation Authority recommends that airlines allocate resources, develop plans to increase flights, and best meet the transportation needs of passengers; monitor the sales situation on flight routes, promptly add flights on routes with high demand, increase operations during off-peak hours and night hours; notify early plans to increase flights to airports and aviation service providers to proactively unify and arrange service resources; prepare resources for operations, minimize delays and cancellations due to airline reasons; maintain and improve the quality of passenger services and on-time flight rates.
Airlines must comply with legal regulations on domestic air transport prices, sell tickets within the price range and domestic transport price policy of the airline; strengthen control over ticket sales by ticket agents; ensure that ticket agents' prices comply with regulations; fully perform the responsibilities and obligations of the carrier to passengers in case of flight cancellation or long flight delay.
ACV directs its affiliated units to arrange the most convenient parking locations for bus routes operating at the airport so that passengers can easily recognize and use the bus service, and coordinate with the local Department of Construction to have a plan to transfer passengers when congestion occurs at the airport area.
Regarding the railway industry, according to statistics from Vietnam Railways Corporation (VNR), as of the morning of April 17, the number of tickets sold was 76,000, accounting for 60% of the number of tickets supplied during this holiday.
“It is expected that from now until the holiday, the number of passengers buying train tickets will continue to increase, especially for short-distance trains. With 6 pairs of trains such as Hanoi - Vinh, Hanoi - Da Nang, Saigon - Nha Trang... a total of 32 more trips will be run to serve the people,” said the leader of VNR.
