In Hanoi, Ha Trung Street (Hoan Kiem District) is the largest foreign exchange street where many popular currencies on the market can be exchanged, such as USD (US Dollar), Euro, Yen (Japanese Yen), Won (Korean Won) ... and many other currencies. However, exchanging money at these foreign exchange streets must comply with the regulations of Vietnamese law.
Won's performance
According to the survey, the latest figures show that the Korean Won exchange rate tends to increase slightly due to the expectation of a revival of the US interest rate cut. Previously, the Korean Won exchange rate in particular and other Asian currencies in general fell sharply due to the FED's tough statement on interest rates.
Earlier, Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari raised the possibility that the US might not make any interest rate cuts this year if inflation worsens and the economy remains solid. His statement immediately sent Asian currency markets and US stocks reeling the previous session.
“Market participants took comfort from the weaker-than-expected US Services Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index, which suggested that overall demand may still soften or the US economy remains weak against the Fed’s prolonged battle against inflation,” said Yeap Jun Rong, market analyst at IG.
Specifically, the ISM services PMI index fell 1.2 points to 51.4, below economists' forecasts. The input price index fell more than 5 points to 53.4, the lowest since March 2020. This is in stark contrast to the manufacturing PMI data last week, when input prices rose to their highest level since July 2022.
