National press awards contribute to promoting revolutionary spirit and are a driving force for journalists.

Overview of the Discussion at the Conference

Deputy Head of the Economic - Social - Internal Affairs Department, People's Army Newspaper Ho Quang Phuong emphasized that over the past 17 years of the National Press Awards, thousands of press works, thousands of journalists and writers have been awarded. The National Press Awards are truly a valuable professional honor that encourages press agencies and journalists to make more efforts to have more and more high-quality press works, meeting the requirements of life. The works that won the National Press Awards have contributed to multiplying the trust of the Party and State leaders, of society and of the people in the revolutionary press team. The National Press Awards, with its rules and criteria, have made press agencies raise awareness and pay more attention to important topics. The works participating in the awards have closely followed major topics in the fields of politics, economics , culture, society, national defense, security, and foreign affairs, vividly reflecting important events of the country.

The National Press Awards have honored the responsible, quality, effective and persistent contributions of journalists who have actively brought the Party and State's policies and laws into life, especially the dissemination, promotion of institutionalization and concretization of the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress and the Resolutions of Party Congresses at all levels. Many works have contributed to conveying major policies on economic restructuring, development of transport infrastructure, digital transformation, climate change response, green development... promoting creative and effective business and production models; honoring and spreading images, noble gestures, and examples of humanity in epidemic prevention and control and in economic and social recovery and development...

The National Press Awards have honored the noble values of journalists. They are pioneering and creative ideas, the spirit of responsible journalism, courage, dedication, even facing danger for justice and reason... Many works have actively participated in the fight against corruption, negativity, and waste of the Party and State; discovered and reflected violations in land use, state budget, public investment... Many negative phenomena, the dark sides, and hidden corners of life have been exposed and directly fought by the press.

The press works that won the National Press Award are also works that directly fight against wrong viewpoints, manifestations of "self-evolution" and "self-transformation", protect the Party's ideological foundation, expose the plots and tricks of peaceful evolution of hostile forces, and resolutely fight to contribute to eliminating what still hinders, restrains, and harms the country's development process.

Our country is facing many great tasks and unpredictable challenges, requiring political determination and greater efforts to realize the aspirations and visions for national development in the new period, posing increasingly heavy tasks, honors and responsibilities to the Vietnamese revolutionary press, requiring journalists and press agencies to make greater efforts to be worthy of the people's trust, to meet the requirements: "Building a professional, humane and modern press and media". Therefore, the National Press Awards need to further enhance their value and influence, thereby encouraging press agencies and journalists to demonstrate a higher sense of responsibility towards the Party, the State and the people, towards readers, for the mission they undertake.

Journalist Ho Quang Phuong, Deputy Head of Economic - Social - Internal Affairs Department, People's Army Newspaper, discussed at the Seminar

Journalist Ho Quang Phuong said that in order to further improve the quality of the National Press Awards, attention should be paid to the following specific issues: Firstly, it is necessary to further improve the direction from the Central to local levels of the Journalists' Association in innovating press activities, linking press activities with practical issues of national and local importance.

Second, a valuable press work is one that has a great impact on the public, on the target group, enough to create changes in perception and action. Therefore, when judging national press awards, it is necessary to measure and evaluate the impact and actual effectiveness of the works. This will encourage revolutionary press agencies to actively come up with more solutions to improve the quality and spread of their press products such as solutions on how to express the work, solutions on distribution, solutions on technology, etc. Therefore, we should have an additional award category "Useful press work, viewed by many people".

Third, press information has a constructive and guiding nature, which is a very important resource for socio-economic development. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to and invest in this very important resource. The National Press Award needs to be further invested in from the state budget and socialized sources to truly become the biggest award in journalism, in terms of both material and spiritual values.

Fourth, we currently only pay attention to judging and announcing the awards for press works, but have not really paid attention to promoting and disseminating the works that have won the National Press Awards. While promoting valuable works is the most important requirement. Therefore, it is necessary to collect the works that have won high awards to print, publish and disseminate on media channels.

Delegates attending the seminar

The National Press Awards are a tonic to encourage and motivate press agencies and journalists to do a good job of propagating the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws; truly be a forum for the people, a channel to provide information to Party agencies and authorities at all levels about public opinion in society, about the thoughts and aspirations of the people... worthy of the trust and expectations of readers. Journalist Ho Quang Phuong believes that in the coming time, it is necessary to continue promoting and enhancing the influence of the National Press Awards on the team of journalists and society.
