"Sprint" phase to switch to electronic medical records

According to the roadmap, September 30 is the deadline for hospitals to convert from paper medical records to electronic medical records. As of September 22, the Hanoi Department of Health has 30 out of 42 public hospitals completed, reaching 72%. Therefore, the Department requires the remaining hospitals to make efforts and quickly complete the conditions to implement the conversion.

Thanh Oai General Hospital has 220 beds, receiving an average of 420 patients per day. On September 21, the hospital held a consultation conference on the use and storage of electronic medical records.

Dr. Bach Ngoc Hoang, Director of Thanh Oai General Hospital, said that the hospital has actively prepared conditions to deploy electronic medical records, moving towards a smart hospital, a paperless hospital. The deployment of electronic medical records is an important step in the process of digital transformation of healthcare at the unit.

Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Quy Tuong - Chairman of the Vietnam Medical Informatics Association suggested that Thanh Oai General Hospital continue to complete more complete and detailed regulations and rules, continue to upgrade and supplement software in the process of implementing electronic medical records. In addition, the hospital continues to focus on training and improving the capacity of staff in applying electronic medical records to medical examination and treatment activities. This will be an important foundation for moving towards building a smart hospital model in the near future...

As of September 22, the Hanoi Department of Health had 30 out of 42 public hospitals complete the implementation of electronic medical records, reaching 72%.

In addition, 14 out of 48 non-public hospitals have deployed electronic medical records such as Hong Ngoc Hospital, Medlatec, VINMEC Times City, Thu Cuc, Viet Phap Hanoi..., reaching 29.1%.

It can be seen that implementing electronic medical records to completely replace paper medical records contributes to reducing procedures, improving the quality of medical data, ensuring data security and creating a solid foundation for connecting and sharing data with the national health system, serving the work of taking care of people's health effectively, continuously and specifically.

Thereby, actively contributing to administrative reform, saving costs, minimizing professional errors and creating favorable conditions for statistics, scientific research, and connecting medical data across the industry.

According to the roadmap for digital transformation of healthcare, by September 30, 2025, all hospitals will have to complete the implementation of electronic medical records to replace paper medical records. Therefore, the Hanoi Department of Health requires the remaining public hospitals to focus resources on implementing electronic medical records, making efforts to accelerate and complete before the September 30 deadline as directed by the Government.

For non-public hospitals, the Hanoi Department of Health also requested the Ministry of Health to direct pioneering units in implementing digital transformation, implementing Project 06 of the Government in many forms such as increasing human resources, investing in facilities, modern equipment, etc.

The Hanoi Department of Health has identified electronic medical records as an important foundation in the digital transformation process of the health sector. “This is a key task in the health sector’s digital transformation strategy to optimize management, improve service quality and ensure information security in health care. Medical examination and treatment facilities prioritize resources and urgently deploy electronic medical records,” the leader of the Hanoi Department of Health emphasized.
