Le Tien Long won the gold medal in the men's 5000m event when he finished first with a time of 14 minutes 49 seconds 08. This was also the last event he participated in at the 2025 Hong Kong (China) Open Athletics Championships.
The day before (May 10), Le Tien Long convincingly opened the tournament with a victory in the 3000m steeplechase event, achieving a time of 9 minutes 10 seconds 51, far surpassing his home opponents to bring home the first gold medal for Vietnamese athletics at the tournament.
Besides Le Tien Long's impressive personal achievement, Vietnamese athletics also won two other gold medals thanks to Bui Thi Ngan and Bui Thi Nguyen.
In the women's 1500m event, Bui Thi Ngan excellently finished first with a time of 4 minutes 22 seconds 31, surpassing many strong opponents from Korea, Hong Kong (China), Macau (China) and Taiwan (China). She quickly dominated from the first lap, maintaining a reasonable strategy and accelerating strongly in the last 400m, leaving the runner-up Lee Seo Bin (Korea, 4:28.75) far behind.
Meanwhile, in the women’s 100m hurdles, Bui Thi Nguyen – one of Vietnam’s top athletes in this event – continued to show her top form. Starting in lane 4, she decisively overcame the hurdles, maintained a steady pace and accelerated strongly in the last 20m to finish first with a time of 13.43 seconds.
This achievement helped her defeat two formidable opponents: Wu Anqi (China, 13.50 seconds) and Ong Jing Rong Kerstin (Singapore, 14.06 seconds).
With 4 gold medals, the Vietnamese athletics team had an unexpectedly successful tournament in Hong Kong (China). This is an important stepping stone to help athletes gain experience, improve their international competition skills, and prepare for upcoming big goals such as the 33rd SEA Games, the Asian Championship...
