Peptic ulcer disease is a common gastrointestinal disorder today - Illustration.

According to Dr. Vu Thi Le, from the Institute for Treatment of Senior Military Officers (Military Central Hospital 108), peptic ulcers are sores that form on the lining of the stomach or duodenum (the first part of the small intestine).

This condition is often caused by the bacterium Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) or the long-term use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

Several natural methods can help reduce symptoms and support the treatment of stomach ulcers. Specifically:

Plant-derived antioxidants (flavonoids)

Foods containing flavonoids include apples, blueberries, cauliflower, broccoli, peas, and green tea.

Flavonoids (also known as bioflavonoids) are natural compounds found in many fruits, vegetables, and beverages. They protect the stomach lining and inhibit the growth of H. pylori bacteria. Flavonoids help reduce inflammation and protect mucosal cells from damage.

The best way to ensure you get enough flavonoids is to eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables every day.

Probiotics

Foods that contain probiotics include yogurt, sauerkraut, and kimchi.

Probiotics are beneficial bacteria that help balance the gut microbiome, support digestion, and improve gut health.

Studies show that probiotics can help eliminate H. pylori bacteria and enhance the effectiveness of ulcer treatments. Probiotics help balance the gut microbiome and reduce inflammation.

Honey

Honey is a natural ingredient with strong antibacterial properties; it can help fight H. pylori and promote the healing of stomach ulcers thanks to its enzymes and anti-inflammatory properties.

Instructions: Mix 2 teaspoons of pure honey with 200ml of warm water. Drink this in the early morning or at night before bed. It is recommended to do this daily.

Garlic

Garlic contains the compound allicin, which has strong antibacterial properties and can help inhibit the growth of H. pylori bacteria. Eating raw garlic or incorporating it into your diet may help reduce the risk of stomach ulcers.

Instructions for use: Eat 2-3 cloves of raw garlic daily, or combine garlic and honey as follows: Prepare 15g of fresh garlic, peel and crush it, then place it in a glass jar. Pour 100ml of pure honey over it until completely covered. Seal the lid tightly and store in a cool, dry place for about 3 weeks.

In the morning and evening, mix 1 teaspoon of honey and garlic with warm water, or chew and swallow 2-3 cloves of garlic soaked in honey.

Licorice

Licorice, particularly deglycyrrhizinized licorice (DGL), is a popular natural remedy for stomach ulcers, helping to increase gastric mucus production, creating a natural protective layer for the lining.

Studies show that DGL licorice may help reduce the size of ulcers and protect the stomach lining from stomach acid.

Instructions: Prepare 3-5g of dried licorice root and wash thoroughly to remove any dirt. Place the licorice root in a pot, add 500ml of boiling water. Once boiling, reduce the heat and simmer for about 10 minutes. Remove the licorice root, strain the liquid, and divide it into several portions to drink throughout the day.

Turmeric can help reduce the symptoms of stomach ulcers and support the healing process - Illustration.

Turmeric

Turmeric contains curcumin, a compound with strong anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. Turmeric may help reduce the symptoms of stomach ulcers and support the healing process.

Instructions: Mix turmeric powder and honey in a 1:1 ratio with warm water. Stir well and drink directly before each meal. It is recommended to drink 3 times a day continuously for 2 weeks to see improvement.

Aloe vera plant

Aloe vera is a natural ingredient with soothing and anti-inflammatory properties. It is often used to aid digestion and help reduce the symptoms of stomach ulcers.

Instructions: Prepare 5 aloe vera leaves, peel and wash them thoroughly to remove the sticky sap. Blend the aloe vera until smooth, then pour into a jar and mix with 1/2 liter of honey. Seal tightly and store in the refrigerator. Each time, mix 10ml of aloe vera with 150ml of warm water and drink 30 minutes before meals. Use 3 times a day, consistently for 2-3 days.

Ginger

Ginger is a familiar spice with powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It helps reduce stomach acid and protects the stomach from ulcer-causing agents.

Instructions: Wash fresh ginger, peel it, and slice it thinly. Crush or press the ginger to extract the juice. Mix 2 teaspoons of ginger juice with 200ml of hot water and add a few grains of salt. Drink this every morning before eating. Continue using it daily to see improvement in symptoms.

"Although these natural methods may help reduce stomach ulcer symptoms, they should not completely replace medical treatments. Always consult your doctor before applying any natural remedies to ensure they do not negatively interact with your current medications," Dr. Le emphasized.
