Exchange and share honey beekeeping experiences

On August 26, in Thuan Chau commune, the Son La Provincial General Science Association organized a conference to exchange and learn from the experiences of members and honey beekeeping cooperatives in the province in 2025. Attending were more than 80 delegates representing households and honey beekeeping cooperatives in the province.

The province currently has 48 branches and 8 honey beekeeping cooperatives with nearly 2,400 members, maintaining over 85,700 bee colonies, mainly foreign bee breeds; annual output is from 3,200 to 3,500 tons of honey, 200 - 300 tons of pollen and 250 - 300 tons of beeswax. Each year, Son La supplies the market with 1,200 - 1,500 tons of high-quality honey, meeting national standards TCVN 12605/2019. The quality of Son La honey products is increasingly affirmed, with many products meeting OCOP standards and using the collective brand "Son La Honey".

The Association of Agricultural and Rural Industries, now the Association of General Sciences, has actively advised on the promulgation of policies to support the development of beekeeping and proposed the establishment of a geographical indication for "Song Ma longan honey"; implemented the project "Application of technology for settling and filtering honey by heat pump drying technology" and the project "Management and development of the collective brand Son La Honey for honey products of Son La province". Organized training, exchanges, learned experiences, linked to develop cooperatives, helping beekeeping become a stable and sustainable source of income.

The conference focused on discussing and agreeing on the direction of beekeeping development, with the goal of striving to increase the total number of bee colonies in the province to 90,000 by 2026; expanding beekeeping in remote areas with advantages in four-season flower sources; developing in the direction of specialization, promoting the application of science and technology; strengthening training, improving product quality, building the "Son La Honey" brand to become the province's key agricultural product; linking production in chains, promoting trade, advertising products, and expanding consumption markets. At the same time, it is recommended that the Provincial People's Committee and relevant sectors have policies to support capital and science and technology for beekeeping members; strengthening quality management and protecting the Son La honey brand.
