On the evening of October 30th, the Vietnam Food and Drug Administration (VFDA), in collaboration with the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan, organized the Vietnam Night program, a special event within the VFDA's series of activities at the 38th Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF).

On the Vietnamese side were the Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan, Pham Quang Hieu; the Vietnamese Consul General in Osaka, Ngo Trinh Ha; and the Deputy General Director of Vietnam Television, Do Thanh Hai. International delegates included Mr. Hiroyasu Ando - President of the Tokyo International Film Festival; Ms. Yuko Obuchi - President of the Japan-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Alliance; and Mr. Tetsuya Bessho - President of the Tokyo Short Film Festival.
The event attracted over 350 international guests, including high-ranking officials, representatives from Vietnamese and Japanese cultural and film agencies, film producers, directors, actors, businesspeople, and investors.
Japan's TBS television station and many Japanese media outlets attended and reported on VietNam Night . Japanese media gave positive reviews of Vietnamese cinema, with TBS television station noting: "In recent years, the film industry in Vietnam has been developing strongly, exemplified by the organization of the Da Nang Asian Film Festival - DANAFF."
In a friendly atmosphere, VietNam Night became a bridge for cultural exchange between Vietnam and Japan, expanding opportunities for interaction and cooperation between producers, directors, and artists from both countries, aiming towards co-production projects and attracting filming locations in Vietnam.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan, President of the VFDA, emphasized that Vietnam Night is not only a night to honor cinema but also reflects the aspiration of Vietnamese cinema to reach international standards. The VFDA has been striving to build a favorable environment for film cooperation through initiatives such as the PAI Index and DANAFF; and also extended an invitation to international friends to attend DANAFF IV in Da Nang City, scheduled to take place from June 28th to July 4th, 2026.
The Chairman of VFDA expressed deep gratitude to friends, partners, and diplomatic representatives who have always accompanied VFDA on its journey to promote Vietnamese cinema to the world . Having overcome many difficulties, from its early days of establishment to its development, VFDA has made continuous efforts and achieved many remarkable results from the domestic and international film community.

Mr. Pham Quang Hieu, the Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan, stated that VietNam Night has become a valuable forum for filmmakers and those working in the film industry of both countries to share experiences, exchange ideas, and promote cooperation in the field of cinema, reflecting the vision and efforts of the VFDA in promoting Vietnamese cinema to the world.

The Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan hopes to continue receiving the attention, support, and cooperation of Japanese agencies, organizations, businesses, and friends to jointly promote cooperation in the film industry, contributing to the common development of the creative industries of both countries.

VietNam Night is an opportunity for Vietnamese and Japanese filmmakers to explore opportunities for film co-production.

Ms. Obuchi Yuko, Chairwoman of the Japan-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Alliance, congratulated VietNam Night and emphasized that while the development of political and economic relations is important, cultural exchange between the people of the two countries through cinema should also be prioritized, helping the two nations understand and appreciate each other more. She hoped the event would be an important opportunity to promote co-production of films between Vietnam and Japan, as well as attract international film crews to film in Vietnam.
The aspiration of Vietnamese filmmakers to reach international levels.
Director Bui Thac Chuyen, actress Diem Hang Lamoon (from the film "The Tunnel "), and the crew of director Nguyen Hoang Diep's film project "1982 " were present at VietNam Night . " The Tunnel " was selected for the "World Focus" category – one of the important categories of TIFF, giving the film an opportunity to reach Japanese audiences and international delegates. The film project "1982" was selected to participate in the Tokyo Gap - Financing Market (TGFM) of TIFFCOM 2025.

Director Nguyen Hoang Diep shared: "Witnessing the development of VFDA at this year's Vietnam Night event, I understand that the persistent efforts of its leader have been justly rewarded. This is even more meaningful when, at TIFFCOM, I constantly heard international friends mention the strong boom in the film market in Vietnam. This success motivates us to realize that cinema needs more practical green signals from agencies and organizations to continue to soar."

At the event, the audience also enjoyed a demonstration of the process of applying the distinctive white face makeup from the film Kokuhō ( Kokuhō ) – a Japanese film currently attracting attention – along with a performance by singer-actress Hoàng Yến Chibi with the songs " A Kiss Lost" and "See You ."
At Vietnam Night , provincial and city leaders sent messages inviting international filmmakers to Vietnam.
