Ambassador Trinh Thi Tam expressed her belief that the Vietnam Film Week 2025 in Colombo will be one of the meaningful activities celebrating the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Sri Lanka. The event will not only contribute to honoring the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Sri Lanka but also provide an opportunity to introduce the culture, country, people, and the rapidly developing film industry of Vietnam to Sri Lankan and international friends.

Expressing his honor to attend the opening ceremony of the Vietnam Film Week, Sri Lankan Parliament Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne emphasized that the relationship between Vietnam and Sri Lanka is a vivid testament to genuine friendship, based on mutual respect, solidarity in the history of the struggle for independence, and cooperation for development for the benefit of the people of both countries.

Speaker of the Parliament Jagath Wickramaratne highly appreciated Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements in recent decades, considering them an inspiration for developing countries, including Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan Parliament is always ready to support initiatives to strengthen parliamentary relations, people-to-people exchanges, and cultural cooperation between the two countries.

Welcoming the Vietnamese Embassy's initiative to organize the Vietnamese Film Week in Colombo, the Speaker of the Sri Lankan Parliament considered it a cultural bridge contributing to enhancing mutual understanding between the people of the two countries through the language of cinema - a powerful global means of communication.

As part of the Vietnamese Film Week in Sri Lanka, the Embassy is screening three outstanding films: "The Childhood Moon" - a touching film about the childhood of President Ho Chi Minh; "Peach, Pho and Piano" - a romantic and tragic love story amidst the flames of war; and "The Old Woman on the Run" - a humorous journey of self-discovery of an elderly woman.

In addition, short documentaries showcasing the natural beauty and cultural life of Vietnam were also screened, offering Sri Lankan audiences a diverse and authentic perspective on the country and its people.

On this occasion, the Embassy organized the awards ceremony for the logo design contest on Vietnam-Sri Lanka relations, launched in early 2025; and introduced the Sinhala translation of the famous war diary, "Dang Thuy Tram's Diary," one of the most moving works of modern Vietnamese literature, personally undertaken by Sri Lanka's Minister of Buddhism, Religion and Culture, Hiniduma Sunil Senevi.

The Vietnam Film Week 2025 in Sri Lanka took place over three days, from July 22nd to 24th, with free screenings for the public. This meaningful event contributed to deepening the friendship between Vietnam and Sri Lanka on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
