"Leaving agriculture but not leaving home." That's the spirit of many young people in the ancestral land today. Instead of leaving their hometowns to start a career elsewhere, they choose to stay, inheriting the traditional crafts of their ancestors, creating stable income and livelihoods, reducing poverty and preventing its recurrence in a sustainable way. Encouraging young people to continue traditional crafts is a new direction for the Viet Tri City Youth Union in its activities contributing to sustainable poverty reduction in the locality.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh and Ms. Nguyen Thi Loi are the third generation of the Ninh Hang sticky rice cake and glutinous rice cake brand (Hung Lo commune, Viet Tri city).
Ninh Hang sticky rice cakes (Banh Chung and Banh Giay) are a famous brand from Hung Lo commune, Viet Tri city. The family has been making these cakes for three generations, with over 10 years of experience offering them to King Hung during the annual Hung Vuong Ancestor Commemoration Day. Mr. Nguyen Van Ninh is the head of the sticky rice cake making village in Hung Lo commune. Like many families with long-standing traditional crafts, he and his wife are always concerned about finding successors to continue the tradition.
Fortunately, Mr. Ninh's son, Nguyen Thanh Binh, and his daughter-in-law, Nguyen Thi Loi, chose to continue the traditional craft, establishing the third generation of the famous Ke Xom brand of sticky rice cakes and steamed rice cakes offered to the King. Nguyen Thi Loi said: "Following this profession, we know it's hard work. We wake up at 3 a.m. every day. Young people like us want to continue and preserve the long-standing traditional craft of our ancestors."
Ms. Nguyen Thi Loi hopes to continue the traditional craft of her parents with her husband.
In fact, many young people have chosen to leave high-paying jobs to return to their hometowns to start businesses, develop traditional crafts, generate income for their families, and contribute to local poverty reduction efforts. A prime example is the Hung Lo rice noodle brand, headed by director Cao Dang Duy.
Ten years ago, young Cao Dang Duy was troubled to see the traditional rice noodle-making craft in his hometown gradually disappearing. This craft, which had existed for hundreds of years and sustained countless generations of Hung Lo people, was now only known by a few women and elderly people. Regretting the loss of this "white noodles made from pure rice," Duy came up with the idea of making noodles, packaging them attractively, and selling them throughout the province and the country.

After overcoming numerous initial challenges, Hung Lo rice noodles have become a renowned brand of Phu Tho province. Not only is it a 4-star OCOP product of Phu Tho , but Hung Lo rice noodles have also been exported to the Japanese market. From its humble beginnings, the factory now produces tens of tons of finished products each month, providing stable employment for 20 local workers. The dream of bringing rice noodles, born in the village, to the international market has become a reality, further inspiring young people who aspire to start their own businesses based on their ancestors' traditional craft.
The Viet Tri City Youth Union continues to promote its role in supporting youth economic development through many practical activities such as: training and transferring advanced scientific and technological knowledge to young people; maintaining and building cooperative models, cooperatives, and "Youth Economic Development" clubs; connecting and supporting access to loan capital; continuing to effectively utilize capital from the National Employment Fund and capital from the Social Policy Bank; promptly inspecting and reviewing the use of capital, recovering capital, and resolving difficulties in implementation and utilization.
The Hung Lo rice noodle brand is becoming increasingly well-known not only for its quality but also for its attractive packaging.
Comrade Dao Manh Hoang, Secretary of the Viet Tri City Youth Union, said: "In the coming time, the City Youth Union will continue to coordinate with units to provide career guidance and vocational training for young people, building in them a lifelong learning mindset as well as life skills to prepare them to meet the requirements of industrialization and modernization of their homeland and locality."
The younger generation continues the traditional crafts of their predecessors, developing professions suitable for modern times. This not only brings economic benefits but also preserves and protects the culture and rich historical traditions of their families and hometowns. This is a valuable lesson that localities should study to encourage and retain young people to develop economically and become wealthy in their own homeland.
