12th grade students review for the 2026 high school graduation exam.

Pressure

In just a few days, thousands of 12th-grade students will take the 2026 high school graduation exam – a milestone marking the end of 12 years of schooling and opening up choices for their future. Besides the vast amount of knowledge they need to acquire, many students also carry anxieties about family expectations, competition, and the fear of not achieving their goals. Pressure is inevitable.

Nguyen Hoang Bao Thi, a 12th-grade student at Cao Thang High School, shared: "Although I've completed the review program, the closer the exam day gets, the more worried I become because I think I still have many shortcomings. Sometimes I wonder if I've used my time effectively, but then I remind myself to try harder for the future and not disappoint my parents' expectations."

Bao Thi is not alone; Nguyen Thai Bao, a 12th-grade student at A Luoi High School, also shared that these days, she is constantly feeling a mix of anxiety and pressure before the upcoming important exam. For Bao, what stresses her is not only the exam results but also the fear of not being able to meet her family's expectations.

According to psychologists, anxiety before exams is quite common among high school seniors. However, if stress persists without proper relief, it can affect both physical and mental health. In fact, many students experience insomnia, headaches, and fatigue due to intense studying over extended periods. Many also frequently lack alertness, studying a lot but not achieving the desired learning outcomes.

Besides the pressure of academic knowledge, many students also experience anxiety about not meeting expectations, lack of confidence during exams, or self-imposed pressure by constantly comparing themselves to their peers. Some students easily become stressed during mock exams, even losing their composure and forgetting knowledge despite thorough preparation.

Support from family and teachers

According to teachers' advice, in the final stretch before exams, the most important thing is for students to balance studying and resting, maintain their health, and keep a stable mindset. Believing in their own efforts will help them feel more confident and secure when entering the examination room.

Besides supporting students academically, families and schools also need to pay more attention to their mental health. Encouragement and support from adults will help students reduce stress and have a better mindset before exams. For many students, family is a crucial source of emotional support during this crucial period.

To maintain mental stability, many students are starting to learn how to balance studying and resting. Nguyen Hoang Bao Thi said that she tries to maintain a habit of getting enough sleep, eating properly, and limiting phone use while studying. After each practice session, she usually rests for 15 to 20 minutes to relax her mind. Without maintaining good health, it's very difficult to study effectively for exams.

According to Ms. Ha Bao Vy, a teacher at A Luoi High School, at this stage, we always try to create a relaxed learning atmosphere, encourage students to maintain a stable mindset, and avoid overworking them. Homeroom teachers also regularly communicate with parents to coordinate support for students in both academics and psychological well-being.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Quy, a teacher at Cao Thang High School, believes that what students need most right now is not just time to review, but also understanding and trust from their families and teachers. Parents also need to reduce the pressure of expectations, pay more attention to their children's nutrition, sleep, and mental state. Students need to remain calm, confident, and have a reasonable study plan instead of cramming in a short period of time. With a stable mindset and self-confidence, they will be more confident when entering the exam room.
