The Nutrition and Development Week, held from October 16th to 23rd, 2025, had the theme "Producing and consuming diverse, nutritious, safe, and sustainable food for the health and comprehensive development of each individual." To effectively implement the national strategy on nutrition, the Provincial Center for Disease Control organized numerous communication activities in response to the Nutrition and Development Week. According to Mr. Truong Anh Truong, Deputy Director of the Provincial Center for Disease Control: "The content of the communication campaign is to encourage people to choose good food, prepare and consume healthy, safe food with clear origins and high nutritional value, avoid food waste, and maintain awareness of environmental protection; and maintain daily physical activity to prevent and combat diseases and improve quality of life."

Nutrition is not simply about eating, but about providing the body with a sufficient and balanced supply of essential substances to sustain life, growth, development, and disease prevention. For children, especially newborns, nutrition during the first 1,000 days of life is crucial for their overall physical and intellectual development. For adults and the elderly, a proper diet helps boost immunity, prevent non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and hypertension, and improve quality of life.

Therefore, the Provincial Center for Disease Control, in coordination with health centers and health stations, organized the dissemination of the message of Nutrition and Development Week through diverse forms suitable for different target groups.

The center promotes awareness campaigns to educate mothers about proper prenatal care and child-rearing practices to maximize children's physical and intellectual development. The campaigns emphasize increasing the consumption of vegetables, fruits, and foods fortified with micronutrients; providing early nutritional care, especially during the first 1,000 days of a child's life; and encouraging a diverse diet that is complete, balanced, and appropriate according to needs. Annually, over 98% of children aged 6-36 receive vitamin A supplements. Children's weight and height are measured, allowing healthcare professionals to advise on and adjust their diets if malnutrition, stunting, or obesity is detected.

Ms. Huynh Kim Thoa, a resident of Rach Gia ward, shared: “Every year, I take my child to the health station to receive free vitamin A and get nutritional advice. My child hasn't reached sufficient height for their age and is slightly underweight. After receiving advice from the health staff, I took my child for a specialist examination to get an effective nutritional supplement plan, helping them develop comprehensively.”

Mr. Truong Anh Truong advised people to consume a variety of foods, ensuring that daily meals include all four basic food groups: carbohydrates, proteins, fats, and vitamins and minerals from a combination of different foods; and to ensure food safety from selection and processing to storage. Everyone should develop the habit of reading nutritional information on food labels before purchasing and consuming them. Simultaneously, combining nutrition with regular physical activity for at least 30 minutes each day is crucial for improving health, maintaining a healthy weight, and preventing overweight and obesity. Furthermore, drinking enough water according to the body's needs and using clean water for daily activities and food preparation is essential for maintaining balance and eliminating excess waste, thus preventing disease.
