Helping farmers escape poverty.

Việt NamViệt Nam16/01/2025

Over the years, thanks to effective access to and utilization of loan capital from the Farmers' Support Fund (HTND) and the Social Policy Bank (CSXH), many farmer association member families in Giap Lai commune, Thanh Son district, have been able to invest in developing models suitable to local conditions, bringing high economic efficiency.

Helping farmers escape poverty.

Mr. Pham Thanh Tam's commercial chicken farming model in Zone 8, Giap Lai commune, provides a stable income for his family.

The family of Mr. Pham Thanh Tam in Zone 8, Giap Lai commune, is one of the nine members of the chicken farming cooperative who benefited from the Farmers' Support Fund and received breeding stock support under the project "Application of microbial preparations in commercial chicken farming in a biosafety-oriented manner". In a conversation with us, Mr. Tam shared: “Previously, my family raised chickens on a small scale. In 2015, I started focusing on building a commercial chicken farming model. In 2020, I joined the Giap Lai Commune Commercial Chicken Farming Cooperative and received a 50 million VND loan from the Farmers' Support Fund to develop the model. In 2022, I continued to receive support from the Commune Farmers' Association with 300 chicks and over 500 kg of feed from a Central Association project to expand the model. To date, I have built 8 coops with more than 10,000 chickens using a staggered rearing method, bringing in an income of over 500 million VND per year.”

Formerly a poor household, but thanks to their determination and hard work, coupled with the support of the Farmers' Association of the commune in providing preferential loans of 50 million VND from the Social Policy Bank for production investment, Mr. Bui Van Toan's family in Zone 1 is now increasingly improving their economic situation. Mr. Toan shared that previously, his family was classified as a poor household with many children and grandchildren, lacking capital for investment in farming, so life was very difficult. In 2022, thanks to the loan support, his family invested in a model of planting eucalyptus trees, cassava, rice, and livestock farming following the principle of using short-term gains to support long-term growth. To date, the model brings in an income of over 100 million VND per year, and the family's life is gradually stabilizing...

In addition, the farmers' association members in the commune always unite, share experiences, and help each other to develop their businesses, bringing in high incomes such as: Member Dinh Van Cuong with a commercial chicken farming model earning 200 million VND/year, Member Nguyen Thi Nhuong with a pig farming model earning 300 million VND/year, Members Nguyen Duy Thanh and Ha Duc Tu with forest planting and timber harvesting models, bringing in billions of VND in income and creating jobs for 5 to 7 workers with an average income of 9 million VND/person/month.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Cuong, Chairman of the Giap Lai Commune Farmers' Association, said: The commune's Farmers' Association currently has 473 members, operating in 7 farmers' branches and 1 commercial chicken farming cooperative. To facilitate members' access to preferential loan sources for economic development, job creation, income improvement, and poverty alleviation, the commune's Farmers' Association has acted as a guarantor, supporting members in borrowing 300 million VND from the Farmers' Support Fund and over 4.9 billion VND from the Social Policy Bank, and supplying more than 16 tons of NPK fertilizer. In addition, the Association regularly provides information on agricultural product markets, advises members and farmers on agricultural product prices, quality standards, agricultural production technologies, and access to e-commerce trading platforms...

To date, 320 households have registered as outstanding farmers in production and business at all levels. All households comply with occupational safety and hygiene regulations in production and livestock farming, and some business households have actively signed commitments regarding food safety and hygiene. Thanks to this, the Association has helped many farmer members escape poverty, striving to reduce the poverty rate to 4.7% by the end of 2024.
