Protecting children through early action.

Every time a child abuse case is discovered, public opinion becomes even more concerned. In recent days, a series of heartbreaking incidents have come to light, further intensifying this concern. What makes many people think is the trauma these children endure, and even more heartbreaking is that many tragedies unfold silently over long periods, right in the place that should be the most peaceful: the family. Behind the cries of children lies a reminder of the responsibility of the entire community.

The law has clear provisions regarding children's rights and the handling of abuse, mistreatment, and violence. Society has also repeatedly and strongly condemned such incidents whenever they are discovered. Yet, child abuse continues to recur.

The primary cause lies in the distorted perception of some adults who still view corporal punishment as a normal method of discipline, considering scolding children as a family matter. Economic pressure, family conflicts, and prolonged, unresolved stress can easily escalate into venting anger on young children, the most vulnerable.

The worrying thing is that many cases show early signs but go undetected and unaddressed in time. A child who is constantly fearful, withdrawn, has unusual bruises on their body, or misses school for many days cannot be considered normal.

The unusual occurrences behind closed doors cannot be considered a private family matter. The silence of neighbors, the reluctance to confront, and the fear of getting involved are inadvertently creating a vacuum that allows violence to thrive.

To put an end to recurring tragedies, the solution must begin within the family. Parents need to understand that love does not mean spoiling, and discipline does not mean beating.

Raising children is a process of companionship through patience, dialogue, and setting a good example. Every adult must learn to control their emotions and know how to seek support when facing psychological crises or life pressures.

Schools must also serve as an important shield. Teachers are the ones who interact with students daily and are in a position to recognize early signs of health, psychological, and behavioral abnormalities.

Teachers need to enhance their skills in identifying risks of bullying, establish procedures for receiving information, and coordinate with authorities when suspicious signs appear. Every school should become a place where students can confidently share their problems.

In residential areas, this responsibility cannot be ignored. When noticing unusual behavior in children, residents need to promptly inform the authorities and relevant agencies. The proactive approach of the community can often help prevent incidents early on, avoiding unfortunate consequences.

After each case of child abuse is discovered, severely punishing the perpetrators is necessary. More importantly, it is crucial to promptly address the gaps in child protection efforts, from management at the grassroots level and handling of complaints to coordination between families, schools, and authorities.

Children are only truly safe when they are protected by the responsibility of society as a whole. Let's not wait until a tragic event occurs before regretting that we spoke up too late.
