An art ceramics exhibition titled "Hue and Uncle Ho" is being held at the Ho Chi Minh Museum in Hue (7 Le Loi Street, Thuan Hoa Ward). The exhibition features 40 selected works from numerous submissions by 21 participating artists.
All of these are incredibly unique individual artistic ideas. Viewers are moved by the artwork "Illuminating" by the artist couple Vo Quang Hoanh, which is beautiful not only for the lotus leaves fired from ceramic but also for the light emanating from the lamps bearing the image of President Ho Chi Minh – nine lamps, nine lotus pedestals, lighting an eternal flame illuminating the revolutionary path of the nation.
Inspired by the emotions evoked by the silent sacrifices of President Ho Chi Minh on his arduous journey to save the nation, artists Le Trung Kien and Phan Thanh Hung successively created the works "Hot Bricks, Red Heart" and "Pink Light," conveying profound feelings.
The theme "Hue and Uncle Ho" truly inspired the authors to portray the image of President Ho Chi Minh during his childhood in Hue, closely associated with the landmarks and historical sites bearing his footprints in the land of Ngu Mountain and Perfume River. Works such as "Vastness of the Land and Sky" (Nguyen Thien Duc), "Historical and Cultural Relic of Duong No Memorial House, Hue", "Relic of President Ho Chi Minh's Memorial House in Hue" (Phan Quang Tan), "Hue Remembers Uncle Ho" (Le Phan Quoc), "Connection" (Phan Thanh Quang), "Traces" (To Tran Bich Thuy), "Smile", "The River Reflected in the Landscape", "Lotus Fragrance Offered to Him" (Le Ba Cang)... evoked strong emotions and pride in the viewers regarding the beloved leader.
Along with reliefs and other sculptures, round sculptures also create a focal point. The set of five sculptures by artist Hoang Thanh Phong depicts the portrait of Nguyen Tat Thanh during his years studying at Hue National High School, and the image of Uncle Ho in Viet Bac. His skillful sculpting, mastery of firing temperatures, and application of various glaze colors have created incredibly vivid works of art about him. Also presented in the form of round sculptures, "Remembering Uncle Ho" (Hoang Phi Hung) and "President Ho Chi Minh" (Do Van Lan) each have their own unique style, from the glaze colors and facial expressions to the eyes and smile, capturing the essence of President Ho Chi Minh. Or artist Vo Quang Phat, the creator of the ceramic painting "Ho Chi Minh - An Eternal Piece," draws inspiration from 135 ceramic pieces, each piece depicting a portrait of President Ho Chi Minh at different stages, moments, and events. 135 ceramic pieces are assembled to form a large portrait, symbolizing the dedication and contributions of President Ho Chi Minh to the Vietnamese nation.
It can be said that each artwork about him represents a unique artistic perspective, a sublime expression of creativity, and, combined with ceramic firing, glazing, and coloring techniques, has created special works commemorating the 135th anniversary of the birth of President Ho Chi Minh - the national liberation hero and outstanding cultural figure.
Artist Nguyen Thien Duc – Chairman of the Hue City Fine Arts Association – highly praised the creative spirit and social responsibility of the artists. “The 40 works fully encompassed the forms and formats of ceramic art. From painting on ceramics, installations, sculptures… all expressed the language of modern ceramics, conveying many profound artistic values that the authors embedded in them with their respect and immense love for President Ho Chi Minh,” Mr. Duc assessed.
Ms. Le Thi Thuy Chi, Director of the Ho Chi Minh Museum in Hue City, said that this is the first time the museum has collaborated in organizing a ceramic art workshop on the theme of President Ho Chi Minh. The exhibited works are of high artistic quality, profound in content, rich and vibrant in meaning, and demonstrate many innovative and creative approaches in form, aiming to create new, humane perspectives on the image of President Ho Chi Minh.
According to Ms. Chi, portraying the image of President Ho Chi Minh is not simple. For artists, avoiding repetition and avoiding being drawn into rigid or stereotypical patterns is always a top priority in artistic creation. However, painters and sculptors have overcome these common difficulties to create and achieve very commendable results.
“After the exhibition ends (scheduled for the end of August), the Museum will return the artworks to the artists. However, the Museum also plans to collect some of the most outstanding works in the future,” Ms. Chi shared.
