According to Google, these AI models, with their "advanced reasoning and multimodal capabilities," have helped transform Google Translate from a simple lookup tool into a communication and learning assistant.

The live conversation translation feature is integrated into both Android and iPhone platforms, providing an instant and effective communication solution. When users press the "Live Translation" button, the AI will listen and translate speech in real time.

The translation will be read aloud and displayed as text on the screen, making it easy for users to follow along and creating a smooth and natural conversation.

The superiority of this feature lies in the intelligent processing capabilities of Gemini's AI. The AI model can seamlessly switch between speakers, recognize natural pauses, and understand a wide range of tones and intonations.

In particular, AI can filter out background noise, ensuring high-quality translations even in crowded places like airports or cafes.

This feature will support over 70 languages at launch, including Vietnamese, Arabic, French, Hindi, Korean, Spanish, and Tamil. Google says users in the US, India, and Mexico will be among the first to experience this feature. It's important to note that this feature requires an internet connection to function.

In addition to its conversational translation feature, Google Translate has added a new language learning mode, developed based on user feedback. Google says that one-third of current users use Google Translate to support their foreign language learning. This demand has prompted Google to integrate a dedicated learning feature directly into the app, rather than launching a separate app.

This training mode is similar to the Duolingo app, allowing users to improve their listening and speaking skills. After setting their level and personal goals, the AI will create customized practice scenarios.

The exercises are designed based on expert advice and the latest research on language acquisition.

Pre-set scenarios are also provided, including communication at work, daily interactions, conversations with family and friends, and many other situations.

During training, the AI will track progress and adjust exercises in real time to match the user's skill level.

This Google Translate feature is currently in beta with some limitations. Initially, the feature is limited to teaching French and Spanish to English speakers, along with English to Spanish, Portuguese, and French speakers. However, language options will be expanded in the future.

Notably, both of these new features are offered completely free on the Google Translate app. However, Google has yet to announce specific pricing plans for the training mode upon its official launch.
