Google is one of the technology corporations that has been very active in the race to develop artificial intelligence (AI) tools, including the Gemini chatbot to compete with ChatGPT or the Imagen text-based image creation tool. However, Google's ability to create videos from descriptive text is still considered by the technology community to be far inferior to its competitors.
Most recently, Google has officially introduced a tool to support users Gemini Advanced to convert text into high-resolution videos with a duration of 8 seconds. At the same time, the Whisk Animate feature has also been deployed with the ability to turn static images into vivid animated videos with a similar duration. Both of these features are now available to users who subscribe to Google One AI Premium.
Veo 2 marks a leap forward in video creation, Google said, designed to produce high-resolution, detailed, realistic, and cinematic videos. Capturing real-world physics and human motion, Veo 2 can create smooth character movements, dynamic scenes, and exquisite details across a wide range of subjects and styles.
To create a video, users will need to select Veo 2 from the models menu in Gemini (the location of this option on the interface may change during development). The feature will create an 8-second video at 720p resolution, exported as an MP4 with a 16:9 landscape aspect ratio. Google also notes that users are limited to the number of videos they can create per month.
Users simply describe the scene they envision, be it a short story, a visual idea, or a specific scene. Gemini then brings those ideas to life. The more detailed the user’s description, the better the final video will be.
Google says that users can easily share videos created by Veo 2 to social media platforms like TikTok or YouTube Shorts. However, videos created by Veo 2 have an aspect ratio of 16:9, which is completely unsuitable for sharing on these video platforms.
The video creation feature is now rolling out to Gemini Advanced users globally, on both web and mobile. However, it is only available to those who have subscribed to the Google One AI Premium plan, with full language support available on Gemini.
Currently, Veo 2 is provided by Google to Gemini Advanced users, with a service price of 489,000 VND/month in Vietnam.
In addition to Veo 2, Google also launched an AI tool called Whisk Animate, which allows users to create new images with descriptive text, then turn this image into a video with smooth motion, but also only has a maximum length of 8 seconds similar to Veo 2.
Whisk, a Google Labs experiment launching in late 2024, helps users quickly explore and visualize new ideas through both text and image prompts. Users can bring their ideas to life with the Whisk Animate feature.
Whisk Animate brings the ability to turn users' still photos into live 8-second videos using Veo 2 technology. The feature is available to Google One AI Premium subscribers in more than 60 countries.
Google also said it has taken significant steps to ensure a safe video creation experience. This includes red teaming and extensive review to prevent the creation of content that violates Google’s policies. Additionally, every video created with Veo 2 is tagged with SynthID, a digital watermark embedded into each frame that clearly indicates that it is AI-generated./.
