Google Maps launches new, useful feature for travelers

(Dan Tri) - Google Maps has just introduced a new feature called "Screenshot", powered by artificial intelligence (AI) Gemini.

This feature promises to help users save a significant amount of time when searching and locating locations (Photo: ST).

The “Screenshots” feature allows Google Maps to automatically identify places in your screenshots and display their locations directly on the app.

This is especially useful when you store a lot of screenshots from travel blogs, articles, or social media to plan your trip.

Instead of having to review screenshots and manually search for location names on Google Maps, AI will take over the task of recognizing names in photos and automatically searching on the map.

This simplifies the process and significantly improves the user experience.

To use this feature, go to "Your places", then select "Screenshots".

Google Maps will ask for permission to access your photo library. If you agree, every time you take a screenshot that includes a location name, Google Maps will automatically recognize it and notify you of available locations.

In case you don't want to grant photo library access, you can still use this feature by manually uploading a screenshot for AI to scan and locate.

The launch of the “Screenshot” feature once again affirms the increasingly important role of AI in enhancing user experience on everyday applications.

Google said it intends to further integrate the potential of AI into all of its products, aiming to provide practical solutions that meet user needs.

In the near future, Google Maps is expected to get another Gemini-powered feature that will allow users to ask questions about a specific location and AI will provide interesting insights.

Previously, this GPS application has also been significantly improved thanks to AI, notably the voice search feature and real-time suggestions.

The “Screenshot” feature is now available on the English version of Google Maps. Google has promised to roll it out to Android devices soon and will likely expand to other regions.
