Entering university with only 0.02 higher admission score than the foreign economics major, Nguyen Vo Chi Nguyen seemed to wake up in time, trying hard to conquer the competitions, improving his results after that "scary" moment.

"In high school, I studied quite well but only got enough points to get into Foreign Trade University, Ho Chi Minh City campus 2. There was also one semester when I couldn't get a scholarship.
There was a time when I was extremely disappointed, but it was everyone's encouragement that helped me regain my spirit, not put pressure on myself, and look at studying more openly" - Chi Nguyen began the story.
During the teaching process, I consider him a typical active student, always eager to learn and trying his best in both studying and activities. He is a young face that can inspire many other young people.

Ever doubted myself
* But you said there were times when you almost lost your way and were no longer proud of yourself. Why is that?
- It was the time of internship, just reaching the peak in many competitions I participated in, making me a bit overconfident.
Yet in the first months of my internship, I found myself not excelling in any aspect, if not to say facing countless challenges when having to do detailed work. I was somewhat skeptical of myself!
Slowing down and thinking a bit, I realized that the challenging period was a valuable opportunity to improve and that I was not as good as I thought. When I am open-minded, persistent and constantly trying, opportunities will come to me.
* You used to be the head of the school's Young Theory Club. How do you find this position?
- We affectionately call the club "Kindergarten". For me, there are two things that are worth mentioning when I am in the role of chairman. "Kindergarten" is a safe environment to develop leadership skills and strategic planning.
Next, "Kindergarten" brings many quality relationships, people who always support me when I face challenges.
Of course, sometimes "Kindergarten" takes up a lot of my time and energy, and sometimes I have to put aside some personal plans. But I still feel that I gain more than I lose by being there among people.
* What does the "Best of the Best" 2024 award mean to you?
- It is truly an indescribable pride because the "Best of the Best" award of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham Vietnam) is only given to one outstanding candidate each year.
I joined with the mindset of just trying my best in all the rounds and the goal was not to fail. But the result was beyond my expectation so I believe that any dedication will be rewarded.
Learn to slow down
* Have you ever felt exhausted and what did you do when you did?
- Yes, especially when you set too many goals at the same time. Like during my last internship, I still went to school, taught and participated in competitions. There were times when I lost energy and lacked concentration. Those times forced me to make detailed plans.
This helps me to work continuously but still keep my spirit up, see the results and continue to make efforts.
The biggest challenge I often face is the emotional ups and downs. I often feel high when I achieve something but also feel down immediately after that with the question "What next?" accompanied by disappointment and frustration.
I am learning to slow down and enjoy and appreciate even the small joys in work and life. Perhaps I need to understand and love myself more, and maintain more inner motivation.
* What is the most beautiful and meaningful failure you have ever had?
- My team could not make it into the top 3 of VTV's "New Generation Students" contest. This failure is beautiful and meaningful because we received enthusiastic attention and support from teachers and many alumni.
I used to think that the final result was the most important thing. However, in this competition, I found that the efforts we made together, the encouragement and advice from those who went before us were invaluable and incomparable.
Communication and critical thinking
* In the age of artificial intelligence (AI), what do you think young people need to survive in the labor market?
- I think AI is a great tool and we need to learn to live with it, take advantage of it to become a better version of ourselves.
There are two important skills: communication and critical thinking in today's context. How to best and most effectively communicate your wishes even when using many different methods.
While critical thinking helps us read, analyze and reflect to be more alert and thoughtful.
I myself am also trying to improve these skills while finding a job where I can create special, positive value both professionally and for the community.
Study well, compete well!
Nguyen Vo Chi Nguyen has excellent academic achievements with a cumulative score of 3.75/4.0, even achieving a perfect 4.0 in one semester and winning many scholarships from the school.
You and your teammates won the national first prize and became the representative of Vietnam in the Southeast Asia regional round of the financial and business case competition for Southeast Asian and Chinese students - ICAEW Business Challenge.
At the same time, Nguyen is also the leader of the group representing Foreign Trade University, Ho Chi Minh City campus 2, in the top 6 nationwide in the "New Generation Students" contest organized by VTV, champion of the marketing contest "Smaze 2024", champion of the Sail your ship contest...
