(Dan Tri Newspaper) - Upon inspection, Nguyen Ninh rice cake shop (11 Hang Than Street) was found to have numerous violations regarding food safety and hygiene.
On the afternoon of January 2nd, the inter-agency inspection team No. 1 on food safety of Hanoi city requested the Nguyen Ninh traditional rice cake establishment, located at 11 Hang Than Street (Ba Dinh district), to temporarily cease operations to rectify a series of violations related to hygiene and food safety.
This information was confirmed by a leader of the Hanoi Department of Health to a reporter from Dan Tri newspaper on the afternoon of January 2nd.
Specifically, at the time of inspection, the Nguyen Ninh rice cake production facility had 5 production workers and one owner.
According to the inspection team's findings at the site, the production area of this facility was repurposed from a family's living kitchen, lacking separate zones, haphazardly arranged, and in a state of serious disrepair.

The floor of the production area was peeling, damp, and moldy, and the drains were open with accumulated waste. The inspection team also discovered clothes being dried right in the processing area, and production equipment was dirty due to a lack of regular cleaning.
Notably, the toilets were located right next to the food preparation area. Insects and animal droppings were also found in the production area.
The raw materials for production were also not stored properly. Sacks of dried rice flakes, the main ingredient for making rice flake cakes, were stacked right by the entrance, next to a damp, moldy wall.
Meanwhile, the establishment has failed to provide documentation proving the origin of the ingredients, food additives, and packaging that come into direct contact with food.
The inspection team discovered that the owner and five employees did not have health certificates or confirmation of food safety training. Furthermore, the labels on the rice cakes did not comply with regulations on product labeling and did not match the product declaration.
Following these violations, the inspection team requested the facility to temporarily suspend all production activities to rectify the shortcomings. Simultaneously, the Ba Dinh District Food Safety Steering Committee was tasked with continuing to work with the facility to thoroughly address the violations and report the results before January 10th.

The inspection team also took samples of two types of cakes, namely sticky rice cakes and mung bean cakes, for quality standard testing.
This is part of the Hanoi People's Committee's food safety inspection campaign for the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet) in 2025. With the goal of ensuring public health, the city has established four inter-agency inspection teams, focusing on food production and business establishments serving the Tet holiday.
Items subject to rigorous inspection include meat, alcoholic beverages, confectionery, fruits and vegetables, and processed foods.
